Clinical Skills Self-Assessment
Everyone possesses some qualities that are referred to as strengths and weaknesses. Both a person's strengths and limitations can affect the decisions that person makes. As a nursing student, I need to become aware of my strengths and weaknesses. Comparing one's strengths to one's weaknesses helps one grow as a person through time, and having solid powers can help someone become more focused. This paper will discuss the three strengths and weaknesses and the three clinical skills that a nursing student would like to have mastered before graduating from the nursing program.
Strengths
My first strength is Communication Skills. Communication skill is the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with coworkers, patients, and families. Even the people who worked under me and in the office while I was a supervisor informed me that I had an excellent capacity to communicate and engage with others. According to Mata et al. (2021), respect, comfort, open communication, and reassuring the patient are the foundations of a healthy connection. This is the first step in developing a positive working relationship with the patient. Instead of offering my thoughts, I made it a point to pay attention to what my patients had to say. By doing so, I can comprehend what my patient is attempting to convey, allowing me to provide an appropriate response. At the beginning of a meeting between a patient and a provider, I like to start by asking open-ended questions. Then at the end, I want to ask "if there are any additional questions or concerns I can answer before I leave the room." I show respect for them by providing the correct response, which indicates that I am paying attention to the conversation that they are having.
My second strength is the documentation. According to Svavarsdottir & Gisladottir (2019), maintaining charts promptly is a vital task in nursing. One of my most remarkable abilities is creating multiple papers at the same time. During my initial stint as a nurse, I spent significant time documenting activities similar to those I perform today. Even while we may believe that we have excellent memories, the truth is that after a particularly hectic day, we frequently fail to recall many of the events that took place.

The document discusses the experience of a student nurse serving as the charge nurse for a clinical day. It was very different than just caring for assigned patients as it involved responsibility for all patients and students on the floor. As charge nurse, familiarization with most patients and being available to assist was required. It also required patience, knowledge of everything happening in the unit, rounding in each room, and helping students learn. Effectively communicating with the team was important as the charge nurse.

I’ve learned a lot of things in just 240 hours of my on-the-job training in Cutis Essentials Dermatology &
LASER Clinic. I started by meeting with my manager, who introduced me to the seniors and future co-workers,
as well as their Dermatology Doctor, Dra. Cecilia M. Banzon. They toured me to the clinic and got a look at
how things work from the front desk receptionist's perspective which is what I'll be doing in my on-the-job
training.
I knew this would be challenging, despite the fact that this is the medical industry and I have no experience in
this field. This is going to be tough, I knew that. Even though I haven't been particularly confident in my first
week, I still believe I can succeed. Since this is my first experience in this industry, I'll be honest and admit that
I'm a little shy and anxious because I don't even know any of the clinic employees and I have a lot of questions
in my mind. But still, the staff there gently instructs and mentors me during my whole on-the-job training,
despite the fact that the first week is challenging.
I decided to pursue a career in this profession because I wanted to work in the media, advertising, public
relations, and related fields. I chose Cutis Essentials Dermatological & LASER Clinic because I wanted to learn
more and explore something new. This Company helped me become more confident by teaching me how to
vocally communicate with patients, how to treat them correctly, and how to maintain emotional control even
though you are exhausted. I was able to learn how to accept small or big mistakes. In this practicum, I’ve
learned how to face the real world and talk to different people.I can say, I'm happy and fulfilled, being a part of
the Cutis Family. I could probably say that I learned a lot of things here. From the moment I set my feet in this
place, I know I will be facing different challenges in being a part of this company but at the same time I know
that I will learn new things regarding the possible work that I will be doing in the company.I gain knowledge. I
learn new skills. I met different people. I can say that my personal experience here in Cutis Essentials
Dermatology & LASER Clinic provides everything not just for the real world of securing employment but for
me to look forward to after my graduation. Yes, someday I may be one of those applicants who are trying to
seek a good job. And not just a good job but also a good company like Cutis Essentials Dermatology & LASER
Clinic.

problems. I thought that my first week would be hard because this is not the field that I am interested in but it
turned out to be good because they treated me like I am their co-worker.

November 2
I decided to continue attending my on-the-job training after the holiday because I had nothing to do at home.
This time, they showed me where the pharmaceutical stockpiles were located in the stockroom. To assist them in
dispensing the medications that the patients are purchasing and needing, they allowed me to look at the
medications they had on hand. Providing me with some time to educate myself about the medications. This will
enable me to assist with the patient's medication.
November 7-9
They patiently taught me how to talk to the patients effectively. They informed me that because of their skin
issues, the patients coming to see us will be agitated. told me how to respond when someone wants to consult
with me but doesn't have an appointment. describing to me the benefits of each facial and the ones we don't
offer. After that, they allow me to use the clinic's phone and train me on how to properly respond to questions.
November 14-16
The senior staff taught me how to talk to the patients and how they will have their appointments. They explained
that it is important for a patient to feel comfortable when they are in the clinic. They also told us about some of
the things that can be done for patients who may be having a difficult time during their visit. They gave me
various chores, including printing the flyers and folding them into three sections, and allowed me to observe the
reception area. After that, they allowed me to encode the patients' names and data. Encoding the names and
information of the patients is extremely difficult for me at first, but as time goes on, I learn it and it becomes
easier.

Encoding patients is part of my daily morning routine during this week, up until Dra's final patient. Banzon,
which is at 5 o'clock, but I also have other tasks, including cleaning the consultation room. Being able to assist
with other clinic tasks and having the opportunity to research this area make me comfortable. They give me the
impression that we are colleagues.
November 28-30
This week, I have to talk to patients who are making inquiries over the phone and in person. At first, this task
seemed difficult to me, but my coworkers patiently taught me the necessary phrases until I had them all down.
Special thanks to Ms. Bell, who taught me how to talk confidently to patients and what to say to them. In this
line of work, I've come to understand that helping those who might need it can be immensely satisfying.
December 5-7
I have been encoding patients as part of my daily morning routine up to Dra's final session this week. However,
I also have other obligations this week, including cleaning the waiting room. We must promptly sterilize the
consultation room after the patient enters it. I feel at ease because I can assist with other clinic tasks and have
the opportunity to conduct research in this area. They give me the impression that we are colleagues.
December 12-14
They show me how to refill other drugs, such as ointments, on this day. Ointments are the skin care products
with the greatest oil in them. They don't immediately sink into your skin; instead, they stay on top of it,
providing greater defense against moisture loss and environmental factors like cold or dry air. Mineral oil and
petroleum are typical ointment components. The shampoo is the other item that we refill, and we do so in a 120
ml jar. While it is most commonly used for its antifungal properties to treat infections or conditions like
seborrheic dermatitis, there is also anecdotal evidence to suggest that it may also help promote hair growth or
lessen hair loss. I try to do it on my own after they teach me how in two days.
December 19-21
I encoded patients this week to Dra. Banzon laptop and front desk area laptop. And after that, I am skilled at
responding to questions from patients. I also discuss the medications that the patients are receiving with them.
They train me how to speak politely and in a soothing voice because we work in the medical industry. This time,
it was easy for me to encode the names and information of the patients, and I enjoy doing it.

December 27-28
This past week, I observed the patient's face in the facial room. As I watched them gently prick the patient's
acne, it felt as though I was also being hurt. While the treatment is being performed, they let me try to converse
with the patient, and they show me how to prick the pimples. Following the observation, they allowed me to
receive the treatment for myself. Although it doesn't hurt when you're the patient, it hurts when you watch it, so
perhaps my high pain tolerance helped. I am content that I had such an experience.
January 3-4
This past week, I realized that my communication abilities are greatly aided by Cutis Essentials Dermatology &
LASER Clinic. Even if there is so much more in your life, you will pick your patient's sentiments over your own
even though talking to patients over the phone and in person helps you to control your emotions. I adore my
ability to manage any circumstance in this Clinic.
January 9
My final day at the clinic, and I'm sad that my daily schedule won't be the same as it was before. I've
gained a lot of knowledge about the clinic's operations, including how everything functions and how
we can best assist our patients. I've also learned a lot about what it entails to be a dermatologist,
including how to treat patients, how to assist them with their skin issues, and the kind of effort
required to perform this task effectively.
This was a fantastic chance for me to practice my English and advance my communication abilities,
therefore I was quite appreciative of the opportunity.
