17. U The building is Contextually rooted & has a Cultural identity in ‘Place’, rather than as a free
standing, exclusively technical or aesthetic object.
U The site specific ‘topography’ accounts for the ecological, climatological & symbolical aspects
of any pre-existing environment.
U The building is not only constructed as a technological or cosmetic treatment but a built-form
that is durable and expressive ‘with regard to the erosive agencies of climate and time.
U The built-form is more a mediatory fabric or environmental filter, that is interactive with
diurnal and seasonal variations of climate and even social ‘space use’ patterns.
U The potential of materials and surfaces to be a part of an overall tactile perception of
architecture, beyond the narrow visual one, where ‘air movement, ambient temperature and
smell, are factors that affect our experience of space’.
