Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease that infects up to 400 million people every year, causing severe flu-like symptoms including high fever, headaches, muscle and joint pains. While there is no vaccine for dengue, reducing areas where mosquitoes can breed by eliminating standing water around homes can help prevent transmission of the virus. Public awareness campaigns are also needed to educate communities on protecting themselves from mosquito bites to stop the spread of dengue.
