EMCA ACTUATION Solutions re-
cently received an order to supply
71 DAS AVA Multi-turn Intelligent
Actuators, with fitted Profibus
cards, to be used in upgrades being carried
out at several wastewater treatment works in
the Cape Town area.
Building on success
Based on the success of Demca’s Greatork
actuators – supplied over five years ago to the
City of Cape Town – as well as subsequent in-
stallations, the City had no reservations when
it came, once again, to accepting the Chinese-
made actuator in its upgrades.
The DAS AVA Intelligent Actuator offers
a high-specification actuation solution for
multi-turn actuation applications. In addition,
it includes unique features such as intelligent
valve-jam protection and a partial stroke
function, which can be activated according to
customers’ requirements.
Simple operation
The DAS AVA Actuator is a package re-
quiring only a power supply and control
cabling in order to fully actuate and monitor
valve position.
Out of the three makes of actuators which
conformed with the project specification,
(Chinese, UK and German), the DAS AVA
Greatork offered a considerable price advan-
tage, with a proven track record of after-sales
service. “These are the factors that clinched
the order for Demca,” says Ross McAslan,
Demca sales manager.
The fitting, testing and commissioning of
the 71 x actuators onto free-issue Insamcor
knife gate valves, was supervised by Demca’s
Gauteng Branch manager, Warren McAslan,
as part of the supply.
Demca has invested considerable time and
effort in the sourcing of products that not
only meet market requirements, but do so
cost-effectively.
“Any product, however, is only as good as
the first person you speak to when there is a
problem – and it is for this reason that after-
sales service and customer satisfaction have
always been of the highest priority to this
30-year-old company,” adds McAslan.
