2. Introduction
• The story of JEZEBEL is found in 1st Kings and
2nd Kings. She was the daughter of ETHBAAL
(meaning “with Baal”, meaning master or owner),
king of Tyre/Sidon and priest of the cult of Baal, a
cruel, sensuous and revolting god whose worship
involved sexual degradation and lewdness.
JEZEBEL, as a daughter of this PERVERSE
KINGDOM, was RAISED in an ATMOSPHERE
where SEX was a PATH to POWER and
INFLUENCE. AHAB, king of Israel, married
JEZEBEL and led the nation into BAAL worship
(1 Kings 16:31). Baal worship was closely
associated with obsessive sensuality and
involved sex acts.

3. Introduction
• JEZEBEL then introduced the worship of
ASHERAH to Israel. She was a POWER-
HUNGRY goddess of love and sensuality.
Priestess-prostitutes filled her shrines and
serviced her worshippers. The lure of these legal,
readily available erotic encounters swayed the
people from the LORD God. By JEZEBEL’S
INFLUENCE, most Israelites, the northern
kingdom, left the worship of the LORD God for
Baal and Asherah. The SPIRIT of JEZEBEL, as
we’ll be referring to it, gets its name from this
woman, who was certainly not the only character
to portray it, but was by far its most famous
representative.

5. The Spirit of Jezebel
• The SPIRIT of JEZEBEL is a strong
DEMONIC SPIRIT closely related to
CONTROL and WITCHCRAFT, creating
anxiety and difficulty in relationships-
especially those where godly authority enters
the picture. Often, when you are around this
SPIRIT, you’ll tend to feel disturbed, uneasy
and frayed around the edges. JEZEBEL
displays a great deal of PRIDE, and tends to
TARGET LEADERSHIP in order to DERAIL it
and render it INEFFECTUAL.

6. The Spirit of Jezebel
• This SPIRIT wields great INFLUENCE
through DECEPTION, and all of us are
susceptible. Since Scripture is the only
reliable source for understanding SPIRITUAL
BONDAGE, we can search it for insight into
this spirit of distortion. There are TWO
INCIDENTS in the LIFE of JEZEBEL which
characterize her and may define what is
meant by the JEZEBEL SPIRIT. The one
continual trait is her obsessive passion for
DOMINEERING and CONTROLLING others,
especially in the spiritual realm.

7. The Spirit of Jezebel
• The FIRST TRAIT, when she became queen,
was her relentless campaign to RID ISRAEL
of all evidences of WORSHIP to the LORD
God. She ordered the EXTERMINATION of
all the PROPHETS of the LORD (1 Kings
18:4,13) and replaced their ALTARS with
those of BAAL. Her strongest enemy was
ELIJAH who demanded a CONTEST on
Mount Carmel between the POWERS of the
LORD God and His prophet ELIJAH and the
POWERS of BAAL and the priests of Baal
and JEZEBEL (1 Kings 18).

8. The Spirit of Jezebel
• Of course there was NO CONTEST, but
despite hearing of the miraculous powers of
the LORD, JEZEBEL refused to REPENT
and swore on her gods that she would
PURSUE ELIJAH relentlessly and take his
life. Her STUBBORN refusal to see and
SUBMIT to the power of the living God would
lead her to a hideous end (2 Kings 9:29-37).

9. The Spirit of Jezebel
• The SECOND INCIDENT involves a righteous man
named NABOTH who REFUSED to SELL to AHAB
LAND adjoining the palace, rightly declaring that to
sell his INHERITANCE would be against the
LORD’S command (1 Kings 21:3; Leviticus 25:23).
While AHAB sulked and fumed on his bed,
JEZEBEL taunted him and ridiculed him for his
WEAKNESS, then proceeded to have the innocent
NABOTH FRAMED and STONED to DEATH.
NABOTH’S SONS were also STONED to DEATH,
so there would be NO HEIRS and the LAND would
REVERT to the POSSESSION of the KING. Such a
single-minded determination to have one’s way, no
matter who is destroyed in the process, is a
characteristic of the JEZEBEL SPIRIT.

10. The Spirit of Jezebel
• So infamous was JEZEBEL’S SEXUAL
IMMORALITY and IDOL WORSHIP that the
LORD JESUS Christ refers to her in a
WARNING to the CHURCH at THYATIRA
(Revelation 2:18-29). The end for those who
succumb to a JEZEBEL SPIRIT is always
DEATH and DESTRUCTION, both in the
physical and the spiritual sense. Perhaps the
best way to DEFINE the JEZEBEL SPIRIT is
to say it CHARACTERIZES anyone who acts
in the same manner as JEZEBEL, engaging
in immorality, idolatry, false teaching and
unrepentant sin.

11. The Spirit of Jezebel
• The JEZEBEL SPIRIT is BORN of
REBELLION which leads WITCHCRAFT.
This DEMON is one of the most COMMON
SPIRITS in operation today, both in the
church and in the world. She operates freely
on sincere believers whose hearts are for the
LORD individually, and has also attained
positions of power within the Church. This
SPIRIT establishes its STRONGHOLD where
it functions as a “CONTROLLING SPIRIT”.
The SPIRIT of JEZEBEL is behind the
daughter of Democracy, i.e. Feminism.

12. The Spirit of Jezebel
• The SPIRIT of JEZEBEL is a CONTROLLING
SPIRIT working through the LUST of the
FLESH, and the LUST of the EYES, and the
PRIDE of LIFE. It has, in general, TWO AIMS:
(1) To gain IDENTITY, GLORY, RECOGNITION,
POWER, and the praises of men. This is a
consequence of the desire for LOVE and SELF-
WORTH. (2) To gain CONTROL by or through
constant AGITATION, terrible AGGRESSION,
and MANIPULATION. It is very determined,
callous, selfish, power-hungry, unrepentant,
deceitful, and overwhelmingly evil. This SPIRIT
is called “SATAN’S WOMAN”.

13. The Spirit of Jezebel
• There are TWO main TYPES of the JEZEBEL
SPIRIT: (1) The HIGH-PROFILE type is
generally gregarious (very friendly and
sociable), outspoken and highly visible. (2) The
LOW-PROFILE type is soft-spoken, giving the
illusion of being solicitous (a) expressing an
attitude of concern and consideration (b) full of
eagerness to do something (c) paying very
careful attention to details, even appearing very
submissive. The LOW PROFILE type may be
the most dangerous, as she is the most difficult
to discern. She relies heavily on manipulation for
her power, in extremely subtle performances.

15. The Characteristics of Jezebel
• Archaeologists discovered what they
believed to be the PALACE of JEZEBEL,
the chief priestess of the cult of ASHERAH-
in the walls of JEZEBEL’S PALACE were
found jars of INFANT REMAINS- the jars
contained the inscription: “These make me
tender and delicate” (Halley’s Bible
Handbook). Note JEZEBEL used CHILD
SACRIFICE to ENHANCE her POWERS
and her seductiveness.

16. The Characteristics of Jezebel
• Nahum 3:4 says, “There is a multitude of slain, a
great number of bodies, countless corpses- they
stumble over the corpses- because of the
multitude of harlotries of the seductive harlot, the
mistress of sorceries, who sells nations through
her harlotries, and families through her
sorceries”. The LIFE of JEZEBEL is detailed 1
Kings 16:29 through 2 Kings 9:37. From these
Scriptures we are able to understand the
BEHAVIOR and CHARACTERISTICS of
JEZEBEL. Let’s consider the JEZEBEL SPIRIT in
GENERAL, in the HOME, in the CHURCH, and in
the WORLD.

17. Jezebel in General
• Fiercely independent/intensely ambitious- only
appears submissive or servant-like to gain power
• Seeks to control/dominate/destroy those under
her “domain” - there are no limits to her
wickedness in pursuit of domination
• i.e., Herodias dancing seductively for King
Herod to win John the Baptist’s head on a
platter (John being the first coming of the
Elijah spirit) (Matthew 14:6-11)
• Manipulator/schemer/Deceiver/Liar/Slanderer
• i.e., To get Naboth’s vineyard (1 Kings 21:8-
10), she proclaimed a fast (veiled spirituality)
but then planted false witnesses resulting in
Naboth’s death

18. Jezebel in General
• Seduces/Charms/Flatters those in power-
maligns, accuses, condemns, and
undermines those in the way
• Rebellious/Stirs up strife
• Rebellion is the core of their being (1
Kings 21:25; 1 Samuel 15:23).
• Encourages sexual
immorality/lust/perversion/incest
• Spiritual blindness/Religious Spirit/
Apostasy/ Idolatry/Humanism/
Occultism/Antichrist

19. Jezebel in General
• Backbiting/Gossip/Sharp Tongue- pits one
against another
• Jealousy/Envy- never satisfied
• Demanding/Possessive/Selfish/Stingy
• Emasculates, devalues every person she
controls
• Exhibits false gifts that are perceived to be
real- especially in the realm of prophecy
• Needs Ahab as a host or to leech upon-
opens the doors of power and authority

20. Jezebel in the Home
• Name “JEZEBEL” literally means “without
cohabitation” (i.e. refuses to cohabit with anyone
unless they can control and dominate the
relationship)
• All spouses of JEZEBELS become AHABS if they
remain in the relationship
• JEZEBEL publicly humiliates with a sharp tongue
to show who’s in charge
• Employs sex to “control” or “punish” or “get their
way”
• Those who are married to a JEZEBEL will exhibit
one of two responses: they will either be fearful in
other relationships, or they will resent other’s
happiness

21. Jezebel in the Home
• Those who are married to a JEZEBEL seek
to avoid confrontation and will their spouse
have their own way
• JEZEBEL smothers and/or dictates their
family (i.e., guilt trips)
• Daughters reared by a JEZEBEL may
manifest masculine or overtly aggressive
behavior
• Sons of a JEZEBEL will become confused
about their masculinity or become sexually
aggressive and seek to subdue women

22. Jezebel in the Church
• JEZEBEL seeks to destroy the prophets
and the prophetic voice
• The JEZEBEL SPIRIT will usually seek to
maneuver itself into leadership positions
• The JEZEBEL SPIRIT hates repentance
(Revelation 2:21). The Elijah spirit is all
about repentance (“repent, for the Kingdom
of Heaven is at hand”).
• JEZEBEL exemplifies false humility

23. Jezebel in the Church
• JEZEBEL avoids prayer- especially in the
spirit, because it binds her spirit
• Intimidates, inciting fear and the desire to r
un away; challenges your spirituality (1
Kings 19:3‐4).
• Directs spiritual leaders in what they should
do (1 Kings 21:8).
• Utilizes spiritual pretense, formulas or
exercises to accuse people; disqualifies
others by exploiting their weaknesses.

24. Jezebel in the Church
• The ultimate objective of a JEZEBEL in the
church is to turn the church away from the
anointing of Holy Spirit into an illicit
relationship with Satan’s counterfeit spirits.
• The church that successfully wars against
JEZEBEL will be given the “morning star”
(i.e. divine authority and favor) and will be
given “power over the nations” (Revelation
2:26-27)

25. Jezebel in the World
• It is the JEZEBEL SPIRIT that is bringing
the harlotry of “Mystery Babylon, the
Mother of Harlots and of the Abominations
of the Earth” into today’s world (Revelation
17:4-5)
• JEZEBEL is a murdering spirit who is
“drunk with the blood of the saints”
(Revelation 17:6)
• The JEZEBEL SPIRIT flows unhindered
throughout entertainment industries
• JEZEBEL flaunts herself in the world of
fashion

26. Jezebel in the World
• JEZEBEL pours out through TV, moves,
magazines, and fashion to lure men and women
into “acts of immorality”
• She is the cruel motivator behind abortion- the
“child sacrifice” of our day
• The JEZEBEL SPIRIT is also behind the plague
of drug addiction in our world (the pharmakaea
spirit). During the Middle Ages witches used
alchemy to produce potions and drugs to control
the minds of others.
• JEZEBEL needs a host, so she uses religion
and/or also church as a headquarters.

28. Conclusion
• A JEZEBEL victim typically will not be able to
convince others of the wickedness of this particular
JEZEBEL, because she has carefully and craftily
made herself appear wonderful to those in power and
in the outside world. However, the JEZEBEL victim
can frustrate JEZEBEL by ignoring her, refusing to
react to her, and resisting doing what she wants. At
this point, JEZEBEL will seek to totally destroy the
victim and their reputation. However, this is also the
time when her true nature is exposed, so if the victim
is “wise as a serpent, yet gentle as a dove”, others
will see this underlying nature as well. To do so, the
victim must war “in the spirit, not in the flesh” and
attack the JEZEBEL STRONGHOLD (2 Corinthians
10:3-6) and spirit in the person to fully stir her up and
bring her out to the surface.

29. Conclusion
• When a JEZEBELIC STRONGHOLD is established in a
person’s mind, it is similar to a computer becoming
infected with a virus- it corrupts, re-routes and distorts the
thinking process. Taking down the STRONGHOLD is
similar to erasing the virus program and replacing it with
pure, Holy Spirit programming. GOD’S ARMY must
DESTROY JEZEBELS, because there is no other
answer. We must refuse offers for a false peace based on
compromise and fear. Note when JEHU came to
DESTROY the original JEZEBEL, she “painted her eyes
and adorned her head”- always looking to SEDUCE and
MANIPULATE. Also note the prophet ELIJAH ran from
JEZEBEL; were are, JEHU removed and destroyed
JEZEBEL, meaning it takes a KINGLY ANOINTING to
deal with this WICKED SPIRIT. This means the WAR
against JEZEBEL is WON by BEING CHRIST-LIKE in all
ways (Ephesians 5:1-21).
