Exploring Google APIs with Python & JavaScriptwesley chun
Tech talk given at Silicon Valley CodeCamp in Oct 2015 and GDG New York in Nov 2016 to introduce developers to integrating with Google APIs from Python or JavaScript: https://www.siliconvalley-codecamp.com/Session/2015/exploring-google-apis-with-python-and-javascript
ABSTRACT
Want to integrate Google technologies into the web+mobile apps that you build? Google has various open source libraries & developer tools that help you do exactly that. Users who have run into roadblocks like authentication or found our APIs confusing/challenging, are welcome to come and make these non-issues moving forward. The first half of the talk covers the Google APIs Client Library, specifically with Python, although you could use any of the other languages supported. We'll then describe the steps necessary to create projects & enable Google APIs from the Google Developers Console. Then we discuss how to create & access the needed credentials. Code demos will show you how to use this code to talk to a variety of Google APIs. While you do the same thing using JavaScript, there is another developer tool that gives you access to Google APIs but in a slightly different way. The second half of the talk covers Google Apps Script, a self-contained JavaScript environment in the Google cloud. You'll learn what Apps Script is and how it's more like using "services" than traditional APIs. We'll show you how to use its development environment and create a Google Sheets spreadsheet that talks to several Google APIs. The applications you build, whether they use the Client Library or Apps Script are reachable by any client, browser, desktop/laptop or mobile. Learn how to leverage the power of Google technologies in the next apps you build!!

Jumpstart into Swagger & OpenAPI (JS Edition) - GrazJSRainer Hahnekamp
For years, we had to write boring, duplicated code for our http endpoints: one for the frontend-side and one for the backend-side. Microservices added even more duplicated code. Once these got out of sync, we had to fix them manually. All of this frustrating "monkey coding" keeps us away from more important tasks.
Swagger or OpenAPI is a set of tools to eliminate this problem. Supporting different languages and frameworks, Swagger’s code generator creates server stubs and clients of your API. It also provides a frontend where we can call the endpoints directly with predefined request data. Say farewell to Postman and other. A nice editor to define the API wraps it up.
I will demonstrate the usefulness of Swagger and OpenAPI using an application based on Express and Angular. You will quickly see how these tools can free you to focus on code that matters.
Rate Limiting GQLs Using Depth and Complexity AnalysisWSO2
GraphQL is gaining popularity due to the flexibility associated with its usage. Since different users will have different query requirements, GraphQL APIs require rate limiting policies that provide users the flexibility to query required data whilst protecting itself from being overwhelmed.
When using GraphQL APIs, its declarative nature of data retrieval enables users to query the exact amount of data required without under fetching or over fetching. Since different queries have different data load and computational complexities, using traditional request count based rate-limiting policies is ill-suited for GraphQL APIs. When enforcing rate-limiting policies to these APIs it is imperative to ensure that it will not hinder the user’s ability to query data. This can be achieved by categorizing users based on their query requirements and introducing rate-limiting policies for each category based on the depth and complexity of their query requirement. WSO2 API Manager consists of a Static Query Analyser which can enforce rate limiting to GraphQL APIs using both depth and complexity analysis.
This slide deck explores how you can protect GraphQL backends using rate limiting.

Front-end, Back-end & Full-stack: Best Practices for Hiring DevelopersHackerRank
While coding challenges are an effective way to test developer knowledge of computer science fundamentals, many organizations prefer a project-based challenge to evaluate the multidimensional skills needed to build real-world applications.
This leaves hiring managers to the time-consuming tasks of creating a challenge, running intensive interviews, and evaluating performance, taking them away from other high-priority projects.
In this webinar, learn how companies are effectively evaluating developer skills without a painful investment of time. We’ll explore:
- What companies are doing to create an on-the-job experience with real-world challenges
- Steps to assess senior candidates holistically, gaining visibility into how they approach system design, architecture, design patterns and more
- How to improve the candidate experience and reduce time-to-hire with a structured, standardized hiring process

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
