4. We need to shift the way
formerly incarcerated people are
viewed in the world
Mass media often depicts “convicts” or “inmates”
in a highly objectifying, one-dimensional, and
sensationalized way. This is not only extremely
harmful for people who have experienced
incarceration, but downright untrue.
There are over 70 million people in the U.S.
living with a criminal conviction. What if we
lived in a society where the word “criminal” is
obsolete?
5. The Decarcerated Podcast serves as a platform that
amplifies the stories of people who have achieved
success despite their experience with incarceration.
Committed to ensuring true justice, this podcast
advocates to de-stigmatize what it means to be formerly
incarcerated.
We cannot think of justice without including the people
who have been directly impacted by mass incarceration.
By sharing their stories, insights and personal reflections
we are helping the world recognize the value formerly
incarcerated individuals have in contributing real
solutions to problem of mass incarceration.
Those closest to the problem are
closest to the solution. Glenn E. Martin
