The hierarchical database model stores data in a tree-like or parent-child structure, with records organized at different levels. It was developed in the 1960s to manage large amounts of manufacturing project data. Some advantages include conceptual simplicity, database security, data independence, integrity, and efficiency for large databases. Disadvantages include complex implementation, difficulty managing, lack of structure independence, implementation limitations, no data definition, and lack of standards.
