This document discusses different sources of power that managers and leaders draw from to influence others. It analyzes speeches by King Henry V and the character Fortune from the movie Rudy to illustrate the utilization of legitimate, referent, coercive, and expert powers. King Henry V possesses legitimate power from his position as king, but also uses referent power through his charismatic speech that persuades and motivates his troops. Fortune draws on referent power through his strong personality initially, but also coercive power through a tough love approach and expert power by sharing his own experiences to dissuade Rudy from quitting.
