The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. Families build ofrendas or altars to honor deceased loved ones, decorating them with marigolds, the favorite flower of the dead, and placing photos and items belonging to the deceased. The ofrendas are meant to welcome back the souls of the dead to celebrate with their families.
