3. Early Life Full name David Khari Webber Chappelle. Born in Washington D.C. on August 24, 1973. His father William David Chappelle III was a professor at Antioch College. His mother Yvonne was a professor at Howard University and the University of Maryland.

4. In June 1991, he graduated from Duke Ellington School of the Arts and majored in theatre arts. He later moved to New York to pursue a career in comedy. He performed at the famous Apollo Theater located in Harlem, where he got booed off the stage by the audience on their famous “amateur night”, but found the experience to be enlightening.

6. Early Career His first major film role was playing Ahchoo in Robin Hood: Men in Tights. He was offered the role of Bubba in Forest Gump, but turned it down because he saw it as racially demeaning. He later admits to regretting that decision.

7. Chappelle’s Show The series premiered on January 22, 2003 with the blind KKK leader Clayton Bigsby that is an African American but doesn’t know it. The series was successful enough to have two seasons and extremely high DVD sales.
