Chilling on an Atlantic Beach with Dauphin HumanDesign Group
The fact that the descriptors, aztec, aegen, arctic and azure have all been used to
define not only the deepest of the primary colours, blue, but also the world’s various
seas is indicative of the colour’s universal appeal. It’s no surprise then that Plascon
have coined their colour of the year for 2016, Atlantic Beach, as an ode to the 2016
Olympic Games happening in the vibrant South American country of Brazil, which
has an Atlantic coastline peppered with idyllic beaches.
Atlantic Beach is a colour that has been trending across the design disciplines of
fashion and interiors. Aesthetics aside, psychologically, blue is believed to encourage
calmness as well as focus and as the colour of the 5th chakra, the throat chakra, it is
also about good communication and the expression of one’s true self; all qualities
essential to a healthy, inspirational and productive work space.
Here Dauphin HumanDesign Group’s seating specialist Cherine Leischman shares
some insight into why Atlantic Beach has been a favourite colour in some of the key
designs in Dauphin’s most recent ranges, what these are and why it matters.
1) What makes Atlantic Beach a good colour to use in today's work
environments?
‘Shades of blue are known to have a calming effect on people, which is great to
encourage focus in the work space. This particular blue also speaks to the evolving
and more modern work environment with its refreshing edge; a move away from past
traditional colours found in offices. It's the sort of blue that makes a statement, ideal
for a company looking to add a little personality to their environment. It is also a
colour that can pair up well with other shades.’
2) Why do you think it’s worthy of Plascon's colour of the year?
‘Atlantic Beach captures a wonderful synergy of boldness and vibrant fun. This
speaks to the current philosphy of the contemporary work environment where a
balance of energy is needed for optimal productivity.’
3) Which are some Dauphin’s pieces that come in this colour and why
specifically them?
‘There are a range of our chairs that come in this colour as well as our Bosse
dialounge. A chair is always a great way to add colour to a neutral desk station and
can also act as an identifier. Our Dialonge is designed as a booth for privacy and
focus that can be used across various spaces and is great for working remotely. In this
light, the blue used across our dialounge range represents a space for focus and
motivation, while also not taking itself too seriously.’
4) Please provide comment on why bright colour is being used more prominently
in contemporary office spaces, especially furniture.
2. ‘Contemporary workspaces are dynamic and are always changing. The trend of
offices moving into a more light hearted space that is not too stuffy and with brighter
colours on the rise. We are seeing this a lot with international offices such as Google
and Facebook. Office design is now embracing creativity and what better way to do
this than playing with bright coloured office furniture. The thinking here is that bright
colours enhances employees mood which ultimately increases productivity.’
