Malaysia dilaksanakan dalam konteks
pembangunan lestari yang bertunggakkan
pembangunan ekonomi, pembangunan sosial dan
perlindungan alain sckitar. Pembangunan lestari tidak
dapat dicapai sekiranya salah satu danpada tunggak mt
dikompromikan. Oleh itu, Dasar Alam Sekitar Negara
tru tclah diwujudkan untuk mengambllkira
pengabungan ketiga-tiga tunggak ini.
Susulan daripada inJ, Dasar Alam Sekitar Negara
adalah bertujuan untuk meneruskan kemajuan
ekonomi, sosial dan budaya serta peningkatan kualiti
hidup rakyat Malaysia menerusi kesejahteraan a1arn
sekitar dan pembangunan lestari.
Pada intisannya, Dasar im akan memberi panduan
kepada agensi kerajaan persekutuan dan negeri,
sektor industri, masyarakat tempatan dan lain-lain
stakeholder daiam memastikan alam sekitar negara
bcrsih, sclamat, sihat dan produkti£

FOREWORD
The management and conservation ofthe environrm>nl
in Malaysia is implemented within the context of
sustainable development, which embodies the three
pillars:economic developmerzt, social development and
environmental protection. Sustainable development
cannot be achieved if wi;• un1;1 of lbtn.e pillars is
compromised. Hence, tbe National Policy on the
Environment has been det;efoped to take into account
the incorporation ofthese three pillars.
Arising from this, tbe National Policy on the
Environment aims at continued economic, social, and
cultural progress ofMalaysia and enhancement ofthe
quality of life of its people. through environmental(v
sound and sustainable dei;elopmerzt.
In essence, this Policy will provide guidance to all
federal and state agencies, industrial seaor, local
community andotherstakeholders in ensuring that the
environment is clean, safe, healthy andproductive.
In implementing this Policy, strategies have been
formulated to ensure that the efforts taken by all
stakeholders are carried out in an integrated mt:lnner.
This would strengthen our effort to achieve sustafnabie
det•elopment in tbe most optimal manner.
