Danny has a nightmare where something not of this world visits him. The next day, he hears a voice in his head telling him to kill someone. Despite resisting, he finds himself in the woods waiting to carry out the command. He debates with himself, but ultimately attacks a woman who walks by. The next morning he feels happy but knows the voice will return and command him again. That night, the voice tells him to get another weapon to kill with, and Danny obediently goes to the garage to choose a tool, accepting that he cannot resist the voice.

1. Breathing.. the only audible sound. A slight fear sets in, slowly at first, but growing rapidly as he realizes that he is unable to move. Do not worry, you aren't awake. You're just dreaming… This was the moment that changed everything for Danny Thatcher. On that fateful night he was visited by something not of this world. An evil something that nobody should know exists. They are parasites of the mind who control their victim and inevitably cause self destruction. When Danny woke up the next morning he sensed a change. The world seemed different somehow. He remembered the odd dream from last night, but soon forgot as the day progressed. It wasn't until after midnight that the change became apparent.

What? Did I just hear something? “Yes, and I want you to do me a favor. Kill someone tonight.” I must be losing it… The parasite is relentless in its assault. Danny held out as long as he could, but he soon succumbed to the will of evil. Before he knew what he was doing, he was walking out of his house. He headed wherever the voice told him to. It terrorized him if he didn’t. Danny waited in the dark woods. He didn't want to do it, but he had no choice. He was out of options. Even though his mind had been made up, a battle ensued in his head.

This isn't right I should…Wait. What was that? Someone is coming down the path.” Danny reached into his jacket and pulled out a long hunting knife, conveniently taken from the garage. He was prepared to do anything next. The woman walked slowly, lost deep in thought. As she came closer Danny's mind raced. There was no going back at this point, though. When she was finally within reach and it was time to act; Danny leapt out from the trees and grabbed her arm. She screamed but soon she was quiet. Danny made sure to drag her far from the path, although he wished he had waited to take her life. It was hard for him to move the corpse by himself. Once he reached a satisfying distance he stopped to rest. Every muscle in his body ached, but not as much as hers had ached. It didn't matter anymore though, she was dead and there was no changing that. The next morning Danny woke up with the best feeling in the world. He was so happy he wanted to sing. No nightmares haunted him tonight. But it would be short-lived. Soon the battle in his head would continue. He couldn't keep Him quiet forever. Maybe for a few hours, or perhaps even a couple of days, but in the end he knew the voice would return. Calling to him, yelling at him, commanding him. Danny didn't know what else to do other than obey.

You did very good Dan. Now let’s go get something to kill with. I’m bored of the knife.” Not knowing what else to do, Danny found himself creeping into the garage. Maybe this time he would use a hammer, or perhaps a saw. After a few minutes of debate, he decided on a long screwdriver. Danny couldn’t fully understand why he was doing this, but one thing was clear. He couldn't go on pretending everything was okay. The voice was here. He didn't know what it could possibly be, or why it chose him. But his will had broken, and he found it easier to agree rather than argue. He opened the door and walked out into the cool night air. Tonight, blood would be spilled.
