Cyberbullying involves using electronic technology to harass or bully others. It includes mean texts, emails, rumors spread online or through social media, and embarrassing photos or videos. One third of children have experienced cyberbullying, and nearly half of suicides among young people are related to bullying. Cyberbullying affects victims' mental health, causing feelings of hurt, sadness, anxiety, depression, anger, and low self-esteem. It can also lead to poor academic performance and, in severe cases, suicide. Newspapers frequently report on cyberbullying cases. Girls are more likely than boys to be threatened online.
