03/2013-03/2014 Solving Linear Algebra Equations by Randomized Parallel Algorithm
● Systematic learning on MATLAB -- Applied MATLAB into numerical analysis, especially iteration
algorithm and decomposition of large matrices.
● Developing interest on algorithms -- Gained some exposure to CG, Kaczmarz and Monte-Carlo methods
● Setting a target for further study -- Gradually knew more about computational science and frontier
knowledge on big data through working with our director, thus became sure that I want to study data
analysis in the future.
12/2015-02/2016 Sentence Representations for Sentiment Analysis on Twitter
Build our own simple deep learning framework and learn task-specific word and sentence representations.
● Writing simple algorithm -- Built framework and completing blocks relevant to logistic regression,
recurrent neural networks, matrix derivative, regularizations combined with stochastic gradient descent.
● Programming -- Basically used Scala, meantime utilized MATLAB to visualize t-SNE
● Further exploring -- developed RNN using dropout regularization and substitute Sigmoid function with
the given Tanh Function
01/2016-04/2016 Forecasting Contract Renewals Based on Customer Attributes
To forecast whether or not a customer will renew the contract, we used 8 machine learning algorithms
covering xgboost, neural networks, random forest and etc. based on given data set. After exploratory data
analysis, feature engineering and parameter tuning, we compared the 8 algorithms and found xgboost to be
the best one. The accuracy of testing our final model on a totally different test set is 80.37%. The model will
be implemented on the EDF Energy internal system.

● Professional skills -- Helped them to optimize their database using SAS based on SQL and taught them
how to have a better use of Excel, finding that the searching speed of the consultants was quite slow; wrote a
handbook of experience for interns in the future.
