Carbon fibers and carbon fiber composites show potential for high temperature applications in the steel industry due to their light weight, high strength and thermal resistance. Research is being conducted on carbon fiber reinforced carbon matrix composites and ceramic matrix composites for refractory applications such as insulating blast furnace tuyeres. Challenges include the high cost of carbon fibers and oxidation resistance at temperatures over 450°C. Development of oxidation protection mechanisms could enable more widespread use of carbon fiber composites in high temperature, oxidative environments.

Preparation and performance analysis of Ni/Dolomite CatalystAnant Arya
