The Party in the Garden is an annual fundraising event for the Museum of Modern Art in New York City that honors notable individuals. In 2012 it was held on May 22 and featured a cocktail reception, sit-down dinner, and after-party with live music in the Rockefeller Sculpture Garden. The group deconstructed the film "Blood Diamond" using Janks' (2009) four orientations of critical literacy: domination, access, diversity, and design. They analyzed how the film portrays power struggles between different groups and discussed how educators can teach students to critically analyze dominant perspectives and meanings. The group then reconstructed their understanding to show how the four orientations work interdependently and discussed their role in teaching students meaning-making skills.
Duane's retraction syndrome involves congenital miswiring of the medial and lateral rectus muscles, causing limited eye movement. There are typically four types based on the pattern of limited adduction and/or abduction. Treatment may involve glasses, prisms, botulinum toxin injections, or surgery such as recession of the medial or lateral rectus muscles to improve eye alignment and positioning. Brown syndrome similarly involves a congenital or acquired restriction of eye elevation in adduction, believed to be caused by an abnormality of the superior oblique tendon. It is characterized by limited elevation in adduction and downshoot, and may cause a vertical eye misalignment.
