Have you been longing for an interactive touchscreen like the ones you see at airports? How would you use one? What would patrons get out of it? Goodman introduces several methods for designing your own kiosk, discusses which features are most useful to patrons (maps, computer usage, browsing the catalog, etc.), and describes how to user-test your designs to make sure that they make sense for your building space. Interactive kiosks are a fun way to appeal to the “It’s a giant iPad” generation and for adults who appreciate interactive visuals.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER
Skin Deep Medi Spa (February 2014 – Current)
Based in Perth, Western Australia, Skin Deep Medi Spa operates four (4) salons within the
metropolitan area where I have been positioned for the last eighteen (18) months. The
position commenced with my employment in February 2014 with Skin Deep requiring a
senior beauty therapist to assist the salon manager in overseeing and undertaking primarily
the advanced treatments of the business and management of the day spa and spa
treatments.
This role quickly grew to incorporate new skills and techniques such as Salicylic Acid Peels,
Lactobotanical Peels, Dermafrac, Emerge and OmniLux treatments. Working with new
systems has led to the utilisation and education of new products and ingredients from
Australian based companies, where I was able to achieve the highest selling retail therapist
across all four Skin Deep medi spas.
Position - Senior Beauty Therapist
The primary role within Skin Deep is to assist the manager with the day-to-day operation of
the day spa and advanced clinical treatments. Working in conjunction with the onsite doctor
for aesthetic treatments.
Act as the focal point between the trainees and the salon manager for various treatments.
Provide guidance and training to the trainees and provide structure to their learning and
exposure. Assess and track personal performance for both daily and monthly targets.
Deliver high quality, professional and enjoyable experiences for the clients.
Behind the Scenes Aesthetic Skincare and Beauty Clinic (March 2012 – October 2013)
It was at Behind the Scenes, where I managed to hone my skills and techniques in massage
and body treatments, refining the methods of Lomi Lomi, Hot & Cold Stones, Bamboo and
Swedish massage. Following this, I was also able to develop the techniques of Ayurveda &
Indian Abhyanga, Sports and Aromatherapy massage.
Behind the Scenes also gave me the opportunity to apply my advanced treatment
knowledge and put my management skills to the test. I gained first hand exposure of direct
client care and management, gained a sound understanding of opening and closing the
clinic, assisted with finances and banking, product care, ordering and stock take, assisted
with advertising and marketing for the clinic, general clinic up keep, and support with client
related issues. During my employment I managed to maintain a large client portfolio with
high product sales.
My position concluded at Behind the Scenes after nine (9) months due to my decision to
transfer to Australia on a working visa.
6. CURRICULUM VITAE Harriet Armstrong (Senior Beauty Therapist)
Updated: September 2015
Position - Beauty Therapist
The position at Behind the Scenes was similar to that required within Skin Deep. I was
required to assist the managing director with the day-to-day operations of the clinic and
oversee their non-aesthetic procedures.
I was required to perform all advanced peels, medical microbermabrasion and skin needling
treatments as well as facials and general beauty maintenance treatments.
Regis Hair and Beauty Salon (September 2008 - March 2012)
It was during my employment at Regis Hair and Beauty where I commenced and developed
my beauty therapy career. During the three and a half (3.5) years I advanced from a trainee
therapist to assistant salon manager. I was required to supervise and coordinate up to four
(4) part-time and full time therapists.
In retrospect, I was required to manage a very full and dynamic column on a daily basis. I
was required to coordinate my time to incorporate regular clients as well as manage
(reorganise) walk-ins.
Regis was an extremely demanding environment, with the business model aimed at the
high-end clientele. I was required to achieve daily and monthly targets and exceed client
expectations. I also tasked with the responsibility of mentoring the work experience
employees where we worked together on strengthening their weaknesses and educated
them in the industry of boutique beauty therapy.
Position 1 – Junior Beauty Therapist
Training of treatments;
Salon code of conduct and etiquette;
Cleaning and general up keep;
Stock take; and
Washing and turn over of beauty rooms.
Position 2 – Assistant Salon Manager
Management of employed staff in the absence of the Salon Manager (2IC role);
Management of the clientele portfolio;
Control and approval of product ordering and restock;
Assistance with preparing daily and monthly reporting; and
Assist with developing and tracking personal and staff key performance.
