called CHETNA in the lines of similar programmes conducted by SBI, BOB,

borrower Company engaged in construction of bridges, dams, roads, railway
lines etc This Company had international presence having construction
activities in Iraq, Libya, Sudan and an Indian subsidiary company for
construction Nathpa Jhakri Power Project (now SVNL). For its activities the
Company was financed by a consortium of Banks with Uco bank as the leader
of the consortium. The Company had a vertical split due to dispute between
Chairman and Managing Director. A number of cases were filed by both the
parties in various Courts and bank was also dragged into these cases. As a
result nearly Rs 100 crores of Consortium advance mostly in non- funded form
3
was under threat. As a pro-active measure we approached Delhi High Court to
declare the projects as of National importance and appoint separate
management for each incomplete project independent of the Company. The
Honourable Court agreed and passed the Landmark Judgement. Thus the
outstanding advance of Rs 100 crores was liquidated.
From Feb 2009 to June 2010 when I was posted in Chennai I was looking
after the stressed assets of our Bank in the 4 Southern states of Andhra
Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. In FY-10 we could reach our
recovery target.
Thus in my career in the Bank I was fortunate enough to get an all round
experience and exposure.
