The document introduces the CAPTivate framework for designing products and services that engage users over time. The framework consists of Activities, Contexts, Triggers, and Plans (CAPT). Activities are the tasks users complete with a product or service. Contexts are the environments and situations when activities occur. Triggers prompt users to engage. Plans lay out future engagements. The framework helps translate user insights into repeated engagement opportunities by understanding barriers, contexts, triggers, and future plans. It aims to design for user goals and business goals through sustained interaction over time.
1) The author tried to create evolutionary music by generating intermediate 10 second audio samples that moved from an initial sample towards a target sample using different arrangements of notes, but the initial attempts failed to produce good results.
2) The second attempt used Python for its audio libraries but a homebrew evolutionary algorithm still only generated noise and got stuck in local minima.
3) A third try using a genetic algorithm library still failed with the program terminating early due to average fitness, likely because the author lacked knowledge of music theory needed to evaluate fitness.

This document discusses the importance of empathy for engineers. It argues that being a successful engineer requires more than just coding skills - it also requires the ability to connect well with others and work effectively in a team. The document outlines four frameworks to help engineers develop self-awareness of their emotions, energy levels, communication preferences, and personal values in order to cultivate empathy. With greater self-awareness and empathy, engineers can improve group dynamics, culture, leadership, communication and productivity, which all contribute significantly to success, happiness and finding purpose in their work.

Facial Beauty, Ideal Dimensions in the Face, ABAM 2015Philip Young
The document summarizes a presentation on a new theory of facial beauty called the Circles of Prominence. The theory proposes that ideal dimensions of the face can be defined by ratios to the width of the iris. Studies varying distances and sizes of facial features like eyebrows, nose, lips, and ears in line drawings and morphed photos found that ratios of 1 iris width or 1/2 iris width were generally rated most attractive. This provides evidence that the Circles of Prominence theory may help define beauty and improve plastic surgery outcomes.
