Vanderbilt University implemented an automated package receiving solution to address operational needs such as reducing paper use, cutting costs, decreasing turnaround time, and improving package visibility. After researching available options such as point solutions, hosted solutions, and in-house development, VU chose an on-premise enterprise solution using rugged handhelds. This provided scalability, integration capabilities, customization, and data communication. The results included significant reductions in paper and costs, a 50%+ increase in turnaround speed, 100% visibility into the package receiving process, and immediate proof of delivery updates.
