Critical Design uses speculative design proposals to challenge assumptions about the role of products and to promote new ways of thinking. It presents imaginative design concepts to provoke thoughts and discussions about alternative perspectives, rather than to provide finished solutions. Some criticisms of Critical Design are that it is negative, only commentary, not serious, or not concerned with aesthetics. However, its goal is to stimulate new ideas about everyday objects and systems through thought-provoking designs, not to be artistic or produce consumer products.
