Editor's Notes

  • #2 With the confusion of the crimp interconnect systems on the market, I wanted to point out the various dedicated lines. Note as the systems have aged new manufacturers have emerged using existing production machines as well as those developed by themselves. Most of the new ones emerge from Asia who have newer tool and dies making their products to meet or even improve on these manufacturers.
  • #3 As we talk about crimping systems – these are the 6 available crimping system With the acquisition of T&B by Tyco, noting the near total disappearance of the system. We at Nicomatic are also so pleased to report that CrimpFlex is a leading crimp connector system. Every year our market share increases.
  • #4 In describing the crimp styles – I broke them up into the Thru conductor method and around the conductor. The FCI Clincher method effectively uses a scissor type piercing method as it crimps from top and bottom at the same time. This causes damage to the polyester and decreases its effective pull strength The around the conductor method are less forgiving when you are off center as you crimp, additionally the effective pull strength and amperage ratings received are less as well. They are also more sensitive to thickness height.
  • #5 The industry is dominated by female connectors – we see 90% of the market using females, with the other 10% split between square male pin connectors and male soldertab contacts.
  • #6 Types of soldertabs – short (3 tines), retention and double retention and the long tab – which is largely used by the EL lamp industry and for placement in terminal blocks
  • #8 Mating headers can be matched with all industry standard crimp connectors
  • #9 Standard non-locking, non latching, non polarizing offerings
  • #10 Latching housings availability in styles from a variety in vendors
  • #11 Whether your using extender cables off your circuitry or transitioning to discreet wires, Standard square male pins will mate to all of our female offerings – all allowing transition from flat to round wire. Available either gender
