2. Hi! My name is and I’m a pre-
service Biology teacher in the MAT program.
This is what
I look like in
real life
And this is
what I look
like in
Second Life
3. After I found the Science Center, I
successfully practiced speaking and
listening in the sound lab.
4. Then I visited a performance stage,
the Open Exploratory Network, and
a Coffee Shop.
Why would
anyone want to
drink virtual
coffee? No
caffeine!
7. I think that good teaching
requires…
Appraisal
How am I doing?
Planning
Make this stuff interesting & relevant!
Purpose
What should students learn? Why?
Passion
Enjoy your subject! Enjoy your students! Enjoy your profession!
8. A little about me…

Home –
My husband,
Buffalove
my dog, and
me. We love
spending
time
outdoors!
9. Before the MAT program…
• I was a research student prepping for
entrance into a PhD program in
Evolutionary Biology.
– My research background is in
Behavioral Ecology and Evolutionary
Biology.
– (I wrote a 72 page Master’s thesis on
bioacoustics.)
• I was given a teaching assistantship and
never looked back! Fieldwork in the Bahamas.
(I didn’t do research on sea
– (I should have known – everyone in stars, though!)
my family is a teacher.)
10. During the MAT program…
• I’ve been working in retail
while completing the first
year requirements.
– (At least I get a discount )
• I’ve just been offered a six
week long term sub
position at a private school,
teaching Living
Environment, Practical
Chemistry, and Forensics.
– (I’m super excited!)
11. Some of my many science idols

more to list!
12. In my spare time, I enjoy…
• Learning more science
– (I’m a total nerd…luckily
my husband is too.)
• Running
• Baking
– (Compromise with
running )
• Doing outdoor activities
– birding, hiking, skiing, Not actually me.
swimming I don’t look that
triumphant at the
end of a race.
13. I’m looking forward to meeting you!
