The document discusses conditional tense, which refers to sentences that express hypothetical or uncertain situations. Conditional tense combines an if-clause, expressing a condition, with a main clause describing the result. There are different types of conditional sentences that use various verb forms like would, could, and might to indicate likelihood. Examples are provided to illustrate conditional sentences in various tenses.
2. What is Conditional Tense?
- Conditional Tense merupakan bentuk kalimat
yang digunakan sebagai pengandaian terhadap
sesuatu yang mungkin atau tidak mungkin
terjadi.
3. - Conditional Tense ini merupakan bentuk
penggabungan antara dua kalimat, yaitu if-clause
atau kalimat pengandaian dan main clause sebagai
akibat dari pengandaiannya.
- Pada kalimat contoh di atas, “If I had wings”
merupakan if-clause, sedangkan “I could fly all
around the world” adalah main clause.
4. - Bentuk dari conditional sentence adalah if-clause +
main clause.
- If clause adalah klausa yang merupakan bagian dari
pengandaian.
- Main clause adalah kalimat yang berisi konsekuensi
dari kondisi pengandaian di awal kalimat.
- Selain itu formula conditional sentence juga bisa
dibalik menjadi main clause + if-clause.
5. 1 If clause
Jika kamu merasa panas
2
Main clause
kamu harus pergi kepantai
3 Jadi
Jika kamu merasa panas, kamu
harus pergi ke pantai
Contoh kalimat bila dengan kondisi
sekarang
6. Conditional Sentence Type 2
- Conditional sentence type 2, atau second conditional sentence adalah kalimat
pengandaian yang digunakan untuk mengungkapkan ketika konsekuensi atau
hasilnya bisa terwujud walaupun kemungkinannya sangat kecil untuk hal itu
terwujud.
- Second conditional sentence sangat cocok digunakan untuk mengungkapkan
mimpi dan angan-angan. Walaupun belum tentu bisa terjadi, tapi bisa juga
menjadi kenyataan.
- Second conditional sentence menggunakan would, could dan might yang
digunakan untuk menjelaskan seberapa besar kondisi tersebut akan terjadi.
7. Perbedaan would, could, dan might adalah modal auxiliary verbs (kata
kerja bantu) yang arti dan penggunaannya hampir sama.
- Would: bentuk lampau dari will (akan), digunakan untuk situasi
tidak nyata dan meminta secara sopan.
- Could: bentuk lampau dari can (bisa), digunakan untuk
menyatakan kemungkinan dan meminta secara sopan.
- Might: bentuk lampau dari may (mungkin), digunakan untuk
menyatakan kemungkinan.
8. Berikut dua pola conditional sentence type 2, yaitu:
Pola 1: If + subject + verb 2, subject + would + verb 1/be
Pola 2: wish + verb 2
Contoh :
- If I were him, I would buy an expensive car. (Kalau aku jadi dia, aku
akan membeli mobil yang mahal.)
- I would go to the concert if I had more money. (Aku akan pergi ke
konser kalau aku punya uang lebih.)
- I wish I had a big house. (Aku harap aku punya rumah yang besar.)
- I wish I could go to New York. (Aku harap aku bisa pergi ke New
York.)
9. Tenses yang digunakan pada klausa “if”
adalah simple past tense. Kecuali untuk
penggunaan subjek orang pertama atau
kedua tunggal (I, he, she, it) tidak
menggunakan kata kerja was namun
were.
10. If I were you, I would buy that new house
Fact : I am not you
If I had much money, I would buy a car
Fact : I don’t have much money
If it didn’t rain tonight, I would invite you to see a movie
Fact : It’s rain tonight
If it rained, you would get wet
Fact : It’s not raining
11. Analyze the sentences below
1. If I won the competition, I would buy a new cellphone.
Fact :
2. If I were slimmer, I would buy this dress.
Fact :
3. If I were you, I would give up smoking.
Fact :
4. If I was the Queen of England, I would give everyone a chicken.
Fact :
5. If you really loved me, you would buy me a diamond ring.
Fact :
12. Jika If+Clause berada di depan kalimat, tanda
pemisah berupa tanda koma perlu di letakkan
diantara dua klausa tersebut.
Example :
If I save enough money, I can go to Paris this
years.
Dan jika Main+Clause berada di awal kalimat
antara dua klausa tersebut tidak diberi tanda
koma.
Example :
My sister can have meatball if she finishes her
homework

Context
61. Mercury is the closest planet to the
Sun and the smallest one in the
entire Solar System. This planet's
name has nothing to do with the
liquid metal, since Mercury was
named after the Roman messenger
god. Despite being closer to the Sun
than Venus, its temperatures aren't
as terribly hot as that planet's. Its
surface is quite similar to that of
Earth's Moon, which means there are
a lot of craters and plains
Speaking of craters, many of them
were named after artists or authors
who made significant contributions
to their respective fields. Mercury
takes a little more than 58 days to
complete its rotation, so try to
imagine how long days must be
there! Since the temperatures are so
extreme, albeit not as extreme as in
Venus, and the solar radiation is so
high, Mercury has been deemed to
be non-habitable for humans
