1. Copytest question:
Write a short story of not more than 750 Words and not less than 500 words that has at least

Traveling has become a common interest of people these days. Presence of technology has
shrunk the world to the size of the raisins of Raisinia Hill. Several thousand miles of distances
have been reduced to few hours of traveling. However, there is a distinct category of travelers,
whom I call ‘the explorers’.
The explorers have an innate curiosity about everything. The rest of the world will probably
never understand them, for their purpose is search and not to search for a purpose.
This is a story of one such explorer, Nathu Ram, who looked after Laloo Prasad Yadav’s cow.
However, he secretly harbored a wish to someday break the shackles of his ancestral legacy of
service to Laloo’s family and to travel the world. External sources had created a perfect well
rounded picture of the world in his mind, like the silicon boobs of Sushmita Sen, as some of his
friends would joke. However, he wanted to see the world through his own eyes, for he knew
that he would see the world differently. Nathu has a unique vision. Once, when Nathu and his
friends were returning from a playful day in the fields, they together spotted a photo of
Priyanka Gandhi lying on the road. Priyanka Gandhi was wearing a bikini in the photo. While his
friends made fun of the photo saying “Gandhi in a itsy bitsy teenie weenie polka dot bikini”,
Nathu was silently observing the bright red bindi on Priyanka Gandhi,which someone had
drawn over the photo. He observed the bindi so intently that it looked like the rising sun to him.
Knowing that his friends will never see what he just saw, he broke his silence with a pretense
laugh.

2. Nathu required money to make his wish come true. Perhaps the adage that ’the universe
conspires to make your most sincere wishes come true’ is indeed true. A production house was
making a documentary on Laloo Prasad Yadav’s life and hence a director and his crew came to
visit Laloo. For a classic anecdote on Laloo, the director wanted to capture Laloo milking his
cow. There in the cowshed, the director spotted a boy with a curious pair of eyes. He was so
drawn to Nathu that he went to speak with him. During his conversation with the director,
Nathu mentioned about his wish to travel the world.Fortunately for Nathu, the director found
the young man so intriguing that he wanted to help. He told Nathu that he is willing to make
travel arrangements for him. However, he wanted to capture Nathu’s journey in a
documentary. Nathu had no reasons to decline the opportunity of a lifetime and so he agreed.
Nathu’s father replaced Nathu with his younger brother at work.
Mumbai, erstwhile Bombay was Nathu’s first stop, where he was going to meet the director
and the crew. Nathu had heard of the famous Vada Pavs of Bombay and hence when he arrived
at the CST station in Mumbai, he went straight to the Vada Pav stall to taste them. The director
had asked him to meet him at his office, which was located near the Seven Bungalows bus stop.
Director was almost ready to leave his office when Nathu arrived, so he decided to take Nathu
to the nearest CCD to explain him the details of the arrangements. A couple of hours and
several cups of espresso coffee later, they both left for the hotel where Nathu was going to
spend the night.
The following day, Nathu and the crew set out to tour the world. The director captured the
world through Nathu’s eyes and mind. The title of the documentary was named after the latest
NASA Space Shuttle,‘Men are from Mars’. In director’s opinion, Nathu showed the same valor
which the planet Mars represents. The documentary became a big success and hence the
director decided to make a movie of it.
Nathu rose to fame with his first movie and this was only the beginning of a long climb.Going
from a small village in India to regular shoots near 10, Downing Street in London and from
eating Vada Pavs at the fast food joints in Mumbai to smoking Havana Cigars, which the likes of
Bill Clinton are known to smoke, Nathu has come a very long way in life. However, behind the
apparent fame lies the curious Nathu, who is still an explorer at heart. Explorer he remains but
now the movies are his medium for exploring.
