Copper Canyon Academy Recognized for Community Service
By Kristen Hayes, CRC Corporate Communications Director
On March 20, 2013,Copper Canyon Academy’s (Rimrock, Ariz.) Executive Director Paul Taylor and four
students were invited by Camp Verde Mayor Bob Burnside to attend the town’s monthly council
meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to acknowledge the efforts of local organizations and
programs that have helped to keep the highways clean and the town beautiful. Copper Canyon has
been cleaning and beautifying a mile stretch of local Highway 260 for over 12 years.
“We are the only organization that cleans and maintains thisstretch of the highway,” said Paul. “It was a
proud moment for CCA and the hundreds of students and staff that have maintained this stretch over
the years. [And] this was a very empowering moment for our girls. One student even challenged the
organization to improve their current services by creating a process to divide up the trash and recycled
waste as a way to improve the environment. This is one example of students finding their voice and
using it for good.”
As Paul so accurately stated, “Way to go team!”
