Conwy Castle was built by Edward I between 1283 and 1289 during his conquest of Wales. It was designed by James of St. George to function together with the surrounding town of Conwy, with perimeter walls bonding the town to the castle. By the 18th century, Conwy Castle had fallen into ruin but it has since been restored and now attracts over 150,000 visitors annually.
