This document discusses the history and principles of palliative care. It defines palliative care according to the WHO as an approach that improves the quality of life of patients facing life-limiting illnesses through early identification and treatment of pain and other distressing symptoms, not only physical but also psychosocial and spiritual. It notes that palliative care provides a multidisciplinary approach to managing pain and other symptoms in advanced stages of serious illness, with the goals of relieving suffering and improving quality of life. The document also outlines some of the common causes of pain in palliative care patients and ethical principles of palliative care treatment.
This document discusses end-of-life care experiences for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and their family caregivers. It notes that over 5 million Americans currently have Alzheimer's, placing a huge burden on unpaid caregivers. The majority of dementia-related deaths occur in nursing homes, despite a preference to die at home. The document analyzes four case studies of family caregivers' experiences, finding that home care was preferred when possible, and hospice services were helpful but often initiated late in the disease process. Providing a comfortable, private environment and adequate information and support for patients and families are important aspects of end-of-life care.
The document discusses the benefits, burdens and harms of artificial nutrition and hydration like tube feeding in patients with advanced dementia or who are near the end of life. It finds that tube feeding does not prevent aspiration pneumonia or malnutrition, does not decrease mortality rates, and does not prevent or hasten healing of pressure sores. Tube feeding is also not shown to improve patient comfort or functional status. Instead of tube feeding, the document recommends comfort feeding by hand for patients with advanced dementia.
Anorexia nervosa is a serious mental illness characterized by an extreme fear of gaining weight and a distorted body image. It causes those suffering to severely limit food intake to stay much lower than a healthy body weight. There are four diagnostic criteria including refusal to maintain a normal weight, intense fear of weight gain, denial of the seriousness of low body weight, and missing menstrual cycles for female-bodied people. Treatment involves psychotherapy, family therapy, medication, encouraging healthy eating habits, and sometimes hospitalization for severe cases. Anorexia nervosa is a serious illness that can cause long term physical and psychological effects if not properly treated.
This document summarizes an article about using art therapy and in-home therapy to provide mental health support for Native Americans living with HIV/AIDS. Historical and personal trauma from events like genocide, forced relocation, and abuse have left this population distrustful of services and facing mental health issues. The Family & Child Guidance Clinic uses a Bowen family systems approach and integrates art therapy to address trauma, substance abuse, and isolation in a culturally-sensitive manner. In-home therapy was also introduced to engage isolated clients who were not accessing clinic services. The goal is to empower clients and help them manage mental health issues so they adhere to medical treatment for their HIV/AIDS.

Blue team power point for juvenile diabetes finaljgdilks
Juvenile diabetes, also known as Type 1 diabetes, is an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. It affects children and young adults and requires lifelong insulin treatment. While the exact cause is unknown, it has been detected since the 17th century. Long-term effects of uncontrolled diabetes can include damage to the heart, blood vessels, nerves, eyes and kidneys. Proper management through insulin, diet, exercise and monitoring of blood sugar levels can help prevent complications.

Primary and Specialty Palliative Care.pptxMike Aref
Palliative care aims to relieve suffering and improve quality of life for patients with serious illnesses and their families. It can be provided alongside curative treatment. The presentation discusses primary palliative care provided in primary care settings and specialty palliative care provided by palliative care specialists. It provides criteria for referring patients to specialty palliative care, such as advanced cancers, organ failures, neurological diseases, and frequent hospitalizations. Early referral to palliative care can improve quality of life and mood and extend survival. While many could benefit from palliative care, there are not enough specialists to meet the need.

Nutrease powder- A natural plant based nutritional shake helps to supports in...SriramNagarajan16
Supplementation of Nutrease powder is essential for proactive prevention and also for the best outcome therapy in Diabetes.
Supplementing essential and conditionally essential nutrients like Nutrease powder to support essential metabolic pathways
is required for immune defense and repair, neuro-hormone balance as well as digestive and detox competencies.
Impaired antioxidant status has been shown to have a definite role in the development of insulin resistance and type 2
diabetes. Overproduction of oxidants (reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species) in the human body is
responsible for the pathogenesis of some diseases. The scavenging of these oxidants is thought to be an effective measure to
depress the level of oxidative stress of organisms. It has been reported that intake of Nutrease powder is inversely associated
with the risk of many chronic diseases, and antioxidant phytochemicals in Nutrease powder are considered to be responsible
for these health benefits. Antioxidant phytochemicals found in Nutrease powder plays an important role in the prevention
and treatment of chronic diseases caused by oxidative stress. They often possess strong antioxidant and free radical
scavenging abilities, which are also the basis of other bioactivities and health benefits, such as diabetes mellitus.
Phytonutrients in Nutrease powder play a positive role by maintaining and modulating immune function to prevent specific
diseases. Being natural products, they hold a great promise in clinical therapy. Phytonutrients are the plant nutrients with
specific biological activities that support human health. Some of the important bioactive phytonutrients include polyphenols,
terpenoids, resveratrol, flavonoids, isoflavonoids, carotenoids, limonoids, glucosinolates, phytoestrogens, phytosterols,
anthocyanins, and probiotics. They play specific pharmacological effects in human health. This article reviews the current
available scientific literature regarding the effect of Nutrease powder as an effective supplementation for a daily energy
need in life style disorders like diabetes.
This document discusses diabetes, including:
- Diabetes is a chronic disease where blood sugar levels are high due to the body not properly moving sugar into cells.
- There are two main types of diabetes - type 1 where the pancreas makes little insulin and type 2 which makes up most cases and often occurs in adulthood.
- The goal of this presentation is to raise awareness of diabetes prevention by educating nurses who will teach patients about diabetes, prevention through diet and lifestyle, and treatment including medication management. Expected outcomes include nurses being able to properly educate patients to make choices that impact their risk and management of diabetes.
This document provides an overview of diabetes, including its history, types, diagnosis, and treatment. It discusses the three main types of diabetes - Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is characterized by the body's inability to produce insulin and requires lifelong insulin treatment. Type 2 diabetes involves insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion; it can often be managed through lifestyle changes and oral medications. Gestational diabetes develops during pregnancy and usually resolves after. The document outlines diabetes diagnosis and describes classes of medications used to treat diabetes, including insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas, and others. It emphasizes the importance of diet, exercise, and medication adherence in diabetes management.
The document discusses the role of genes in the HLA region and insulin gene in determining risk of type 1 diabetes, prevention of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and future expectations such as pancreas transplants, islet cell transplants to the liver, and use of seaweed-derived housing to protect transplanted islet cells from immune system rejection. It also examines causes of type 2 diabetes including metabolic syndrome and findings from the Diabetes Prevention Program on preventing progression from pre-diabetes to type 2 diabetes through lifestyle changes and metformin.
Over 23 million Americans have diabetes, which can lead to serious health complications like heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and blindness. Medical Network One is a physician organization that develops wellness programs and active care plans for patients with chronic conditions like diabetes through education on managing blood sugar levels, nutrition, physical activity, and medications. Their Diabetes Self-Management Education program teaches individuals how to adjust their lifestyle and maintain control of their diabetes through group and individual sessions with doctors, nurses, dietitians and other experts.

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
8 Surprising Reasons To Meditate 40 Minutes A Day That Can Change Your Life.pptxHolistified Wellness
We’re talking about Vedic Meditation, a form of meditation that has been around for at least 5,000 years. Back then, the people who lived in the Indus Valley, now known as India and Pakistan, practised meditation as a fundamental part of daily life. This knowledge that has given us yoga and Ayurveda, was known as Veda, hence the name Vedic. And though there are some written records, the practice has been passed down verbally from generation to generation.
