This document discusses ideas for three music video concepts:
1) A slow-tempo video set in London featuring a travelling couple interpreted through montage editing and shots capturing expressions. Locations include streets, alleys and public transport.
2) A video set in a park featuring a dancing couple with sunsets and establishing shots telling their story through reflections on art and mirrors.
3) A surreal video with slow-motion during music drops possibly involving fire or explosions, using lighting to reconstruct the artist's narrative with two parallel storylines - one artistic and one of a boy's day.
It also mentions using couples in all three concepts and locations like art museums and public transport, and the need for group time
2. Music ideas: Jamie XX – Stranger in a room
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7CGF6IKA0USlow – mo to emphasise the
tempo of the song
Sunset atmosphere which
emulates the background
beat and continues steady
tempo
Potentially a couple travelling,
this may be interpreted using a
time lapse
Locations – London, main roads, side
roads, alley ways, public transport
• Montage Editing – Flows with the tempo
• Meat shots – Capturing the expressions of the characters
• Parallel lines of action – Shows more than one story being told
at a time
• Handicam – Public transport?
• Artistic – Mirror shots, reflections of shapes, Tate Modern,
Surrealism
3. Music Ideas: Mura Masa – Miss you
Location: - In a park, scenes of potential travelling
A couple are involved
dancing or showing
their love for each other
Sunsets to be involved,
scenes to focus on more
background settings
These establishing shots help
to tell the story more than the
characters
Relate back to previous ideas of
art and mirrors being involved
Title of song ‘Miss you’ can be interpreted
throughout the music video using a couple
orientated scenes which flash back to how
they were together and when they are alone
Two parallel lines of action
Slow cutting rates
Location
Art involved - Surrealism
Props to support the location

4. Music Ideas: Flume – Say it (Feat Tove Lo)
Slow – Mo when the music drops to create a surreal
atmosphere potentially supported with some kind
of explosion or fire involved activity
Mise - en - scene: Use of different
lighting to reconstruct the artists
metanarrative
2 different lines of action –
Art/surrealism scene with a present day
story of a particular character
A young boy growing up? A
young boy completing a day at
school? Different line of action
reflects his expressions using
different forms of lighting and
colours
• Montage editing
• Different cutting rates – Faster at the drop
• Two parallel lines of action
• Props
• Image overlapping

5. Further Discussions
Cast and characters: - Couples could be involved in all three songs we have analysed as their
actions help to express the metanarrative of the artist
Locations: - Art museums, public transport inc. buses, trams, trains
Time Management: - As a group, we will have to work together to identify times that we can
work on the music video in order to cooperate our ideas together. We will also need to
coordinate correct time management with the cast we plan to use in the music video as they
will be needed throughout the filming of the video.
