and Demand for Taxes
1. Terms:
a. Municipal taxes
b. Frontage: Some taxes for local improvements (such as
building new roads and sewers) are based on how
wide the front of your land is.
i. Sometimes these local improvements are
“spread over 5 or 10 years”. Calculate the
amount and divide by the number of years to
figure out how much you pay this year.
c. Education taxes: the mill rate is determined by your
local school division
d. Total Taxes: municipal taxes + educational taxes
e. Provincial Tax Credits: this is an amount of money
that the province “gives back” to you. Subtract this
amount from your “Total Taxes”
f. Levy: amounts of taxes calculated for your municipal
and educational taxes
