June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

1. Narrative Essay On Community Service
Ana Portillo
Professor Russel Whitaker
English Composition I
November 13th, 2017
Narrative Essay Many teens consider community service a chore to complete in order to graduate
or something to include on a college application. Yes, I was one of those teens in my high school
years, but because I didn't really know what community service was really about, and I hadn't
experienced it until my history class. With this opportunity I was able to experience this wonderful
community service taught me more than what I could ever give.
When I was in high school I had this history subject in which community service was a requirement
to pass the class, because of this we had to complete 18 hours of community service during the
semester. To be honest,...show more content...
I walked there with three girls named Alicia, Veronica and Karla. They showed me where their
beds where and gave me a whole tour around the institution. I was impressed with all the beds they
had, it was a huge wide room with many vertically arranged beds for each and every one of them.
I started on cleaning and washing all the bed quilts, and all the girls were willing to help within
everything, I didn't feel it was a job. They all seemed so cheerful and happy because somebody
came to help them. Though, I was the one who got out learning things I hardly knew about. They all
looked so mature to me, but I only could see a little girl from the outside.
Then, I saw from across the room a very shy and quite little girl, she barely talked and interacted
with the others. So, I went up to her, and asked her name. "My name is Sofia," she said with tears
in her eyes, "What's wrong?", I asked. The other girls told me she had just arrived to the
orphanage a few days ago. So, I grabbed her hand and went to the kitchen to give her a sandwich.
She was amazed the whole sandwich was just for her, and she couldn't stop thanking me. This
shocked me a lot because there are many children out there that don't have a place to stay or
anything to eat, while we who have the privilege to have a place to call home, food always on the
table, and most importantly a family, we take all that and everybody for granted. We should place
more value on all those

2. My Passion For Service And Community
I was raised up believing in the importance of service and community as I saw my family members
and neighbors selflessly help and be in community with people in need. It is therefore no surprise
that I discovered my passion for service and volunteerism while still young. In my hometown
Nairobi, Kenya, I did community service through various ways, including my involvement in the
charity walk for Street Children and Orphans in Kenya in 2003 and the 2007 Brookside Freedom
from Hunger Campaign. I participated in the charity walk for these causes and helped raise
money to support street children, orphans, ending hunger, and was recognized as one of the top
three people to raise the most funds. In high school, I volunteered at the St. Nicholas Children's
home in Kenya, where I served, played, and was in solidarity with the children. In 2013, I earned
the President's Bronze Standard award given to me by Honorable Mwai Kibaki, the third president
of Kenya for being a young person equipped with positive life skills and a change maker in my
community, country, and globally. Understanding where I have come from and how blessed I have
been to have an opportunity to attend college is what drives me to excel academically. It is also what
makes me feel I must give back. While at Xavier, I continued my passion for service by gaining
leadership positions in various organizations, including the Students Government Association;
African Students' Association; Black Students' Association, and

Growing up as a Vietnamese–American, my family emphasized the Confucian values of familial
and communal support. This, coupled with the suburban setting I grew up in, instilled in me the
value of community service. I desire to use my skills and knowledge to help those around me. As a
physician, I plan to use my medical training to service my community, practicing within it as well as
serving as a volunteer to treat underprivileged individuals. Furthermore, I seek out positions where I
can work with different ethnic populations. I am a first–generation American and I recognize the
difficulties minorities and immigrants have. By volunteering in these settings, I have become more

As a student, I have demonstrated many works of service to my community and school. Service
opportunities have shaped me into the person I am today and these projects have made me
realize how fortunate I am for all that I have. While I've been doing these service projects through
the years, it has been a pleasure seeing the joy on the faces of people that aren't as fortunate as I
am. Service projects that I have completed include managing the fish booth at the St. Leo's Parish
Festival, being an altar server at St. Leo's Parish, helping cook dinner for the Ridgway Fire

7. Essay On Importance Of Community Service
Importance of Community Service
Community service is an important component of a business's social responsibility. Everyone
belongs to a community, and it is our moral obligation to help those who cannot take care of
themselves. Providing these citizens with food, medical assistance, clothing, and shelter helps keep
the community safe and healthy. In addition, people will be less likely to commit crimes in order to
gain basic necessities if they are offered help instead. By giving back to the communities they are
located in, businesses can improve their image and gain the respect of local citizens. Therefore,
community service can be a very profitable business venture. People can develop several important
business skills through community service, such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and
problem solving. Community service can also be an excellent way for individuals to network with
others and discover new business opportunities.

8. Community Service Persuasive Speech
General Purpose: To persuade the audience that community service should be implemented into high
school requirements.
INTRODUCTION
Attention Gainer: According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, San
Diego's homeless population is the fourth largest in the United States (Schroeder, 2015).
Reason to Listen: As you will soon see, there are easy steps that we can all take to help this growing
problem in our community.
Speaker Credibility (right to inform): I was in an organization called National Charity League which
allowed me to volunteer around my community throughout high school and I have also researched
about how beneficial community service can be.
Thesis statement: To persuade the audience that there should be a required amount of hours that a
student needs to volunteer before they can graduate high school.
Preview your Main Points: Many students do not volunteer because it is not a requirement and
therefore are uneducated about the benefits of volunteering. Creating a mandatory amount of hours a
student needs to complete will educate students about the benefits of volunteering as well as benefit
their communities.
II. BODY
Main Point # 1 (Problems/Harms) (this should be a full sentence) Many students are not motivated
to volunteer and therefore in times of need like right now, do not know how to help.

In Srebro's article, she states that "volunteer rates have been steadily declining for over a decade"

9. "Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless."– Sherry
Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes). On average, when people think about community
service, they assume that volunteering is just 'hours we need to be able to graduate' and that is it.
Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by
someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to his or her community. People frequently
compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small–time offenders as an
alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is the vital force to many communities
since they depend on the service made by the volunteers...show more content...
Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend
through the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about
volunteering). Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life,
since teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering
has been such an important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that
12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the
frequent answers all the schools are getting are "Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to
do!" What people are forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is
not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because
obviously the government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are
not only helping others, they are also helping themselves (Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new
subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming
more and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early
19th century since America was experimenting with the Great Awakening. The Great Awakening
was a period in which the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the

11. Benefits Of Community Service
In a college student's life, there are many obstacles that can keep students from doing what they love
and enjoy; an after school job, homework and social life. All of these may keep students from taking
a look at their own communities. Some may never realize how much their neighborhood may need
help until they become the ones with the helping hands. The question is: Should college students be
required to do Community service in order to graduate? Community service refers to "service that a
person performs for the benefit of his or her local community" and is done without pay, according
to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Performing community service is not the same as
volunteering since it is not always done voluntarily. It may be done for a variety of reasons:
Some students are required to complete community service as part of a class requirement, or in
order to graduate, or to become a member of certain organizations. Adults also participate in
community service as a way to help others or if they are ordered to do so by a judge. There is even
government programs that offer free dental care in exchange for community service. Some
Community service examples include: tutoring children after school, collecting school supplies to
donate, planting a school garden, visiting residents of a retirement center, delivering meals to senior
citizens, driving them to appointments, passing out food at a soup kitchen, collecting used clothes to
be donated or making first aids kits for

12. Persuasive Essay About Community Service
As an 18–year–old tennager, I was forced by my parents to participate a summer volunteer
program in my freshman year. Even though I felt that I was a victim of "tyranny" in the beginning,
I realized that I actually enjoyed the process of helping people in the middle of the program. Now, I
participate that program every year as an active member, and I have gained the personal enrichment
that I am unable to learn from other sources such as math club or SAT preparatory class. There is no
doubt that community service can bring essential benefits in helping students develop their moral
value and future interest, and it should be mandatory because some students attempt to utilize
community service as a tool for their own profit without the school supervision. Volunteerism
enables students to gain the moral lesson that is vital to their life and develop their future interest.
According to source 2, "community service teaches us through experience – about the relationship
between empathy and responsibility, about what it takes to be part of a community, in essence, about
human being". While students are helping their community, they learn the crucial moral lessons in
the most direct and impressive way. Through an actual experience ofvolunteering, students are
reminded that it is their responsibility to serve for their community because they are a part of it.
Helping without any feedback allows them to realize the power of empathy, the essential value that

Community Service Statement: Briefly describe your extra–curricular activities which demonstrate
community service, leadership, and/or volunteerism. Outline your contribution, the time
commitment required, and what you learned as a result of participating. I am a representative of the
Society of Calgary Undergraduate Math. As a representative, three to four hours per week, or
forty–eight to sixty–four hours per semester, are dedicated to office hours, where I am available to
anyone who has questions regarding club events and services, such as tutoring, which are offered
by the club. In addition, at the end of each semester, I lead the organization of one final exam
review session for a chosen entry–level mathematics course, which requires meetings with both the
professor of the course and the chosen instructor who will lead the review. Overall, the review
sessions require two to three hours of preparation, including sitting outside of the review admitting
members and providing membership to new members. As a result of being part of the club, I have
learned a few very valuable lessons. First, I have acquired better communication skills when
conveying information to different audiences. Disseminating information on club events to students
requires a different tone than giving the information to a professor, and I have valued the opportunity
to become familiar with how professional and informal communications differ. In addition, by
working with other members during meetings, I

14. Essay on Commitment to Community
Commitment to community is a requirement for contemporary Americans and vital to its survival.
"Love thy neighbor as thyself" is the unselfish act of sharing: from a cup of sugar to a wealth of
information to the guardianship of all children involved and the protection of every individual in that
said community. Whether that community consists of the "Classic Neighborhood, those with a
common set of goals, or those who share a common identity" the thread that holds this matrix
together is always woven into the shared identity as well as responsibility of all involved. (Redmond,
2010). A community cannot continue to exist through the will of withdrawn individuals who arms

However, in the Gemeinschaft they remain essentially united in spite of all separating factors,
whereas in the Gesellschaft they are essentially separated in spite of all uniting factors. (Tonnies,
1957, p. 50).
Gesellschaft helps hide the dormant cells of individuality that rots any vibrant community.
Responsibility to others becomes irrelevant and a useless logo in the familiar diction of
independence. Lone wolves in the wild hardly ever survive, yet, they will take advantage of the
resources of their habitat for as long as they can, even devouring the carcass of their own kind. So is
the case of self–preserving individuals who will bankrupt the wealth of the community with constant
withdrawals from those committed to the survival of the group without ever making any meaningful
deposits.
The sharing of information has to be the most vital entity, outside of unity, in a community.
Common interests are supported, carried, and guarded by those participants of a neighborhood or
group. Alderman Edward M. Burke of the 14th Ward of Chicago has been alderman since 1969 after
his father's death in May 1968. The "Back of the Yards" community has continually supported him
for over 30 years. In return the community has received additional funding for education, land grants,
public parks renovations, and millions of dollars poured into their ward. It has been in the

15. Community Service Synthesis Essay
It is apparent that the individual is out of touch with his/her environment, as we live in a time of
isolation. This view of a frightful outside world is a common mindset in people, prompting them to
stay home with the excuse that some things are not worth experiencing. Beyond this misconception,
is a world that although may need some work, has opportunities for every kind of person. In fact, a
"frightful outside world" can change with the contribution of a helping hand; this is what makes
community service imperative. There is no better way to encourage students in assisting their
communities than implementing service requirements in High School, and various sources explain
the benefits behind these standards. A few of these excerpts include "Community Service...show

One of their main claims in support of these educational requirements is for personal enrichment,
and their passage reveals that "Doing Community Service is empowering. When an individual goes
out in the world and interacts with other people in the spirit of bettering, that individual makes a
contribution and will feel a sense of accomplishment (Source A)." That is to say, when we engage in
serving our community we catalyze the development of our own human nature. Providing assistance
to those in need speeds up the process of broadening one's moral conscience, just like how scholar
John Prueter did with the elderly. The Detroit News published a story on how this seventh–grader
was inspired into nursing after spending time with various senior citizens. The major newspaper
claims that "Even after High School, Prueter hopes to continue working with the elderly by studying
nursing. He says he became interested in the field because of his volunteer work (Source B)."

16. The Impact Of Community Service On The Community
Community service is simply defined as non–paid work done by an individual, group, or
organization that benefits the community. While community service is commonly interchanged with
volunteerism, these two terms should not be interchanged with each other since the former could be
a mandatory task or requirement in certain situations. These situations include requirements for
being granted citizenship to a country, class projects or requirements, and it can also serve as a
corrective sanction for criminal charges.
Before we discuss the value of community service and its impacts on the individual, let us first look
into the relationship of the individual and to the society. With man being a social being, one can
never separate himself not only from his immediate community but to the larger society as well.
Since time immemorial, man has relied on the various mechanisms of community in order to address
his needs for survival. We can observe man's reliance on the community even dating back to the
prehistoric era. During this time, the primitive communal mode of production was dominant among
communities, where everyone had a part to play in feeding and taking care of the community
members. But this was not only the duties of the community members. While survival was the
primary interest during the primitive communal stage of society, by staying and living within a
community, mean learned to develop values, culture, and of course a set of rules to govern the
community and maintain

Community service is a constant in the world. It's what brings together communities and opens up
opportunities that people otherwise wouldn't have taken. As each generation grows up, the needs of
community service within changes but always remain. The current generation in community service
brings the future into the folds. How we approach bringing another generation into community
services changes with societal values and workplace relations. Today, there is a fine line to walk with
community service, as we need people to be part of it but at the same time, we don't want to restrict
what could be possible. Community service is a way of touching the lives of people that often go
unnoticed and bringing joy to places within you or others. That joy found in community service is
something that should be cherished and shared among everyone. By...show more content...
The fine line that I spoke about earlier is this, right here. If students are required to do community
service now, will they continue to volunteer in the future? Stukas, Snyder and Clary are authors who
looked into how community service requirements affect students and they found that if requirements
are heavy, it can have "...negative effects on students' intentions to volunteer freely in the future...".
The whole point of introducing community service to students is to help them integrate it into their
lifestyles now and for the future. Interestingly enough, Stukas, Snyder and Clary found that we can
prevent the negative side effects of mandatory volunteering in students that don't necessarily want
too by allowing students to pick what they want to do in terms of volunteering. Additionally, if we
lift the heavy requirements and allow room for students to pick volunteer opportunities that play
towards their strengths whilst getting their hours, it won't harm their motivation to volunteer in the

What does community service means to me? Well, to me community service mean helping your
community become a better place. When you do things for your neighborhood, it makes you feel
like a better person. There are all sorts of activities you can do in your community. You can work
with children at school, work with the elderly, or help people that are less fortunate and make
their day very special. Community Service is very important because it gives you a chance to
bond with the people in your neighborhood. It will also give you a chance to give back to your
community , you'll learn a lot from your experience, and you'll make a difference in someone's life.

19. Community Service For College Education Essay
Getting a Free Education for Volunteering Your Time Performing public service as a student is like
getting job experience before you graduate. Why would any student be against having real world
experience added to their resume before they graduate from college? Yet, there are some students
who are opposed to the requirement of public service in exchange for a free college education.
However, education systems would be smart to add this incentive because encouraging students to
perform community service is a benefit to students, to the community, and to the entire country.
Those who criticize required public service in exchange for an education may claim that it is using
them as free labor. Nothing could be further from the truth!...show more content...
The surveys went on to detail wide support among all age groups, indicating that this program
could make a huge impact on communities (Lopez). Finally, those who oppose public service may
also undervalue it by thinking that it is not a necessity, nor is it their civic duty. Even President
Obama, in his speech to Texas A & M students, stated that there are still people who feel that
"service is nice, but it's not really essential" (Dunham). He also pointed out that volunteerism is "the
very fabric of our nation...the essence of our liberty – that we give back freely" (Dunham). Students
who hesitate to volunteer should know that our country didn't get where it is without effort and
sacrifice. In conclusion, is volunteering in exchange for an education really just giving communities
free labor and take advantage of students? Is there enough support, and is it essential? It is clear
through many sources, including our highest leaders, that public service benefits the student just as
much as it does the community. Ultimately, students gain not only an education, but also the pride in
being responsible to themselves, to their community and to their

What comes to your mind when you hear the word community? Does it excite you or does it make
you cringe? One important question we should be asking in today's society is whether community
service is an opportunity to unite and help others or is it something we avoid for our selfish means?
Society today illuminates the self and is primarily centered only on oneself. Thus, volunteering for
the sake of helping others does is rare, unless it has personal benefits. People were once united and

are only concerned about their life and future. Nowadays everyone is busy attempting to find their

I had initially believed that these community hours were going to make me look better among
other students applying. However, after working at the MCC for over two months, I recognized
that my intentions were wrong and selfish. I became aware of this because as I grew personal
attachments with the kids that I was tutoring. Once I was became familiar with the kids, I was
able to see how underprivileged they actually were. For example, I had found out that some of the
families could barely even afford a meal a day. This fact changed my whole mindset because I
decided that I was no longer going to do this community service for college and, instead, was
going to do it for these kids. It is one thing to have a cousin who is starving than to have a stranger
who is hungry and needs food. We tend to help those who we are well acquainted with, such as
family or close friends. When we help family members or close friends, we don't get to fully
understand the concept of helping someone. This is because the concept of helping others is to not
only help those who are close to you, but help those whom you may not know. This can be
achieved several different ways. One way is to travel to another country and help different children
and families that are in desperate need of assistance. In most cases, when someone goes to another
country to do community service for the underprivileged, a bond is
