comics fan Y. When he moved to San
Diego, California in 1970, he organized a one-
day convention on March 21, 1970 "as a kind of
'dry run' for the larger convention he hoped to
stage." Y went on to be associated with the
convention as president or manager, variously,
for many years until becoming estranged from
the organization. Identify X and Y.

pierce his chest. He has a great appetite and
sometimes has a whale for his breakfast.

wore the costume and became X.

adventure “The Shooting Star”. As the owner of a
major banking concern and a petroleum firm
called Golden Oil, he uses his wealth and
resources to attempt to beat Tintin and his friends
in the race to find a recently fallen meteorite. In
the original edition of The Shooting
Star (published during World War II) he was
referred to as Blumenstein, and his bank was
explicitly stated as being located in New York. In
later editions Herge relocated X to a fictitious
country called San Rico.
