The interviewee moved from Zaragoza, Spain to Valencia, Spain as a child when their father got a job promotion that required relocating. It was a difficult transition as the interviewee missed their friends and family in Zaragoza and faced some rejection from locals in Valencia due to cultural differences. Over time, the interviewee adapted but still considers Zaragoza their home and visits regularly.

Where do you come from? Where does your family come from?
We are from Zaragoza. I was living there with my parents and my
brother, I was 12 years old and all my family (my uncles, cousins…)
were living there too. I had all my friends in Zaragoza, and I was very
happy and comfortable there.
What where the reasons why you move?
They were work reasons of my father. He was working as a train head
and he took an examination and got promoted to coach management
but he couldn’t work at this post in Zaragoza. He only could work in
certain cities, and in Aragón he couldn’t either. My parents were
doubting about going to Valencia or to Barcelona, but finally they
decided to go to Valencia.

3. What was the political and economical situation in your
country/city?
We were living under Franco’s dictatorship. It was the post-war period
and there was too much poverty, but the development was starting.
What appealed you most when you arrived?
It was that there, people among them spoke Valencian, and not
Spanish, and I didn’t know how to speak Valencian.

4. Did take you a long time to adopt the Valencian way of life?
Yes because I noticed a kind of rejection to the foreign people. They
have a name for the people who didn’t come from there, and they didn’t
say it like a derogatory name but these and other attitudes, like laugh at
the names that I used for games that weren’t like the names that they
used, made me feel uncomfortable. Generally, they weren’t very
receptive with the people and the habits different from them.
What did you miss of that you didn’t have here?
The family, because I was accustomed to staying with them, and going
out with my cousins, and in Valencia, I couldn’t see it, and it was a had
situation for me. At the beginning I missed my friends too, because in
Valencia I didn’t meet anyone, but later I started to meet people.

Have you ever gone back to your country/city/village?
Yes, when I was living in Valencia with my parents, I always went back
when I was on holiday, and now I try to go, at least, once a year.
Would you like to go back definitely to your city one day?
Yes, probably I would, but I think, that it would be very complicated.

Yes, I know many people who are inmigrants.

Most of them came for economic reasons.

Maybe yes, but I don’t know
