Cold Harbor is an unincorporated community in Virginia where an important Civil War battle took place in 1864 between Union cavalry led by Sheridan and Confederate infantry. On May 31st, Sheridan's cavalry seized a vital crossroads at Old Cold Harbor, and the next day his troops used repeating carbines and trenches to repel an attack by Southern forces.
