2. How do we gain knowledge of
our environment?
 Through the cognitive preference
Perception!
 Jung determined that the cognitive
functions associated with Perception are….
INTUITION and SENSATION
 Jung labeled these the ‘Irrational
Functions,’ not because they are faulty, but
because they require no decision making,
they just are….

3. MBTI: Intuition versus Sensing
 Of the 16 personality types laid out by the
MBTI, 8 will have the letter N (for Intuition) in
their four letter code and 8 will have the
letter S (for Sensing) in their four letter code.
 What this indicates is that someone with a
strong preference for Intuition will have a
much lower preference for Sensing their
environment and vice versa.

4. The Primary Distinction
Between N & S
 (N) Intuitive’s have a future focus and
usually want to understand the relationships
between details and how they make up the
‘big picture.’ They notice patterns and
possibilities between connections
everywhere!
 (S) Sensor’s have more of a focus on the
present and are concerned with what is
available to them through their 5 senses.
They notice the here-and-now and want
concrete details that are relevant to their
physical reality!
