Who is over all responsible for 
coastal security ? 
Navy Role :- Indian Navy is over all 
responsible for coastal security. Navy 
has vast jurisdiction in the sea – beyond 
IMBL. 
Indian Coast Guard Role:- It is also a 
central security force which supports 
patrolling in the sea beyond 12 Nm also 
responsible for coastal Security.
Coastal Security Group -

CSG is also responsible for 
Coastal Security from the 
Land Border upto 12 Nm – 
operational responsibility is 
5 Nm. 
ICG and CSG are the 
Coordinating Agencies to

Formation of Coastal Security Group – 
When ? 
Tamil Nadu Government 
Formed Coastal Security Group 
in the year 1994,with the prime 
object of prevention of 
Smuggling of essential 
Commodities.
Objectives: 
1) Prevention of Smuggling of essential 
Commodities Such as Fuel , medicines 
etc. 
2) Prevention of intrusion of militants by 
sea. 
3) Prevention of collusion between 
fishermen, militants and to attend 
fishermen problems.
Functions: 
1) Prevention of Smuggling of essential Commodities 
Such as Fuel, medicines etc. 
2) Prevention of intrusion of militants by sea. 
3) Prevention of collusion between fishermen's militants 
and to 
attend fishermen problems. 
4) Sea patrolling. 
5) Management of MPS, OPs, Check post. 
6) Undertake cycle, foot patrols. 
7) Conduct VVC Meeting 
8) Gathering Intelligence.

with 10 bicycles – by which men 
visit the villages & gather 
intelligence maintain rapport 
with the fishing villages.
