                          Canoe our Waters (C.O.W.) A six part progression
                           of skill development in your own canoe! GIRLS— Grades 4-12
                           Master the paddle, from Beginner to Canoe camping!
                           COW 1 Start the program here, with basic skills and
                               1—
                                  safety awareness. Can be weekdays after
                                  school or on Sundays at camp River Ranch.
                                  Girls 4-12th grade
                           COW FUN DAY—A program for JUNIOR girls to take the day
                                    DAY—
                           to get used to a canoe. Extra projects & paddling makes
                           the day a full wide game of troop or individual girl fun!

                           COW 2 Expand on the basic skills with more strokes,
                               2-
                                  turning, going straight and become the captain of
                                  your vessel!
                           OPEN Practice - Just like swimming, practice helps it to
                                           become much easier. Games are fun too!
                                          Practice—combine your visit on a Sunday to
                           COW 1 + or 2 + Practice
                                                  maximize your learning experience!
                           COW 3 Learn rescue skills to be best prepared for an
                               3—
                                  emergency before you go tripping. These are
                                  skills for life and essential.
                            COW 4 Fill your tool box with more stroke development
                                4—
                                   and be ready for all the elements of a bigger
                                   water environment. Get strong and ready!
                            COW 1 thru 44—A weekend for older girls full of paddling           BROWNIES Try it at

CUSTOM PROGRAM OPTIONS— To register for a Canoe our Waters or Kayaking event, first check the website,

do not work for you, or you don’t see the program of interest, contact the Camp Director to request custom
program dates for your group, or to schedule the appropriate program level for your group. See page 2 for the

     Meet certified Kayak Instructors at Camp River Ranch and learn to Kayak! Earn this 3
     part patch to prepare you for a bigger kayaking adventure on bigger water.    For girls
     in grades 4-8 with older girls accepted in special patrol groups.

     INTRO TO KAYAK PART 1—Earn the Kayak part of the patch
              KAYAK—
             Learn the basics of kayaking and kayak safety.

     KAYAK PRACTICE PART 2– Earn the GIRL in a RR floatation device
           PRACTICE—
            Come and play games and practice your skills in a kayak!

     INTERMEDIATE KAYAK—PART 3—complete the patch with your PADDLE!
                  KAYAK
            Back to learning with more advanced skills, including what happens if you
            capsize. Be ready for a bigger water by practicing in the safety of Lake
            Langlois.
     When the Badge is complete, YOU ARE READY for Kayaking Adventures around the region!            A United Way Agency
