The hiring of a Chicago Tax Attorney is a simple thing, and there is no question about the benefits of their hiring. We are well aware of the difficulties related to the tax matters. In fact, those who are not learned and don’t have a background in the law cannot even understand what is written there in the tax code.

RIGHTS OF VICTIM EDITED PRESENTATION(SAIF JAVED).pptxOmGod1
Victims of crime have a range of rights designed to ensure their protection, support, and participation in the justice system. These rights include the right to be treated with dignity and respect, the right to be informed about the progress of their case, and the right to be heard during legal proceedings. Victims are entitled to protection from intimidation and harm, access to support services such as counseling and medical care, and the right to restitution from the offender. Additionally, many jurisdictions provide victims with the right to participate in parole hearings and the right to privacy to protect their personal information from public disclosure. These rights aim to acknowledge the impact of crime on victims and to provide them with the necessary resources and involvement in the judicial process.

WELCOME TO OUR
COMMUNITY REPORT
LOVED AND APPRECIATED BY CLIENTS
SINCE 1972.
MISSION
VISION
Seeking to ensure that all economically
and socially disadvantged people in
our community have access to the legal
information, advice and representation
that they require.
To provide legal assistance,
information and support to
economically and socially
disadvantaged individuals
who would not otherwise have
access to such services.
3. A MESSAGE FROM BOARD
CHAIR DAVID MIKSHA:
Years ago, we were the first legal
clinic in Canada with a dedicated
homeless outreach lawyer. More
recently we became the first
Canadian clinic with a dedicated
Indigenous program. In being a
trailblazer, we have delivered cutting
edge impact to our community here
and provided an example to other
community-oriented legal clinics.
I would also like to thank our staff
for their resilience and initiative.
I see the work you do, managing
high case loads and high stress,
all while developing yourselves
and thinking strategically.
The heart of CLG remains its
volunteers. You are the solid
foundation CLG, and every shift you
take, you help to bridge the distance
to a better future. Thank you.
We have had another busy and successful year
at Calgary Legal Guidance. An upswing in
the Alberta economy is looking hopeful for
us as we plan and work towards increasing
opportunities for Calgarians to access justice
and support.
This past year we began to review how
we provide services to many of Calgary’s
most vulnerable, including a new client
file management system, and developing
structures around merit for our programs -
particularly assessing not only the legal benefit
to the client, but also the social benefit from
the client’s own perspective. Our Domestic
Violence Family Law program is a good
example of this and plans to launch processes
in the fall of 2018 that measure legal benefit
and outcomes, as well as a client’s increased
sense of empowerment and improved feelings
of overall self-efficacy.
We believe that access to justice is broader than
merely a day in court, or support from a lawyer,
but also includes an individual feeling more
knowledgeable and confident about their legal
issue, while feeling respected and treated equally
by legal professionals and within the system of
justice. CLG’s consistent attention to serving as
many people as we can with the best in legal
advice and support can only happen because
of our amazing volunteers and staff.
WELCOME INTRODUCTION FROM
OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
MARINA GIACOMIN:
Handled more than 70,000 contacts (an increase
of approximately 20,000 from the year before)
Provided 447 summary advice clinics with
lawyers seeing over 3600 clients in our clinics

Message from Minister of Justice and Solicitor General for the 2018 Calgary
Legal Guidance annual report
Congratulations to Calgary Legal Guidance (CLG) on another successful year of serving your
community.
Legal clinics have an essential role in the justice system, and CLG continues to help ensure that
vulnerable Albertans have access to legal support when they need it most. The assistance makes
an obvious and powerful difference in their lives, and by doing so, your work also strengthens
our communities. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a CLG volunteer early in my
legal career. It greatly influenced me, and I continue to draw upon it in my role as Minister of
Justice and Solicitor General.
As lawyers, we have a responsibility to uphold the principles ofthe justice system and advance
the administration ofjustice to support those in need. The Government of Alberta stands with
you in being committed to this goal. As the Minister and on behalf ofthe provincial government,
I look forward to continuing to work with CLG and the broader legal community to develop
innovative and collaborative approaches. Together, we can better address justice system
pressures and increase access tojustice.
Thank you for your efforts over the past year, and keep up the great work in the year ahead.
Sincerely,

TOTAL EXPENDITURES
BY PROGRAM
TREASURER’S
REPORT 2017-2018
After two challenging years, 2017/2018 (FY2018) faired substantially
better for CLG. The organization’s balance sheet is strong. Funding
has increased, as have sources of funds. Expenses have been tightly
monitored and controlled.
As a whole, F2018 revenue increased to $3.2 million (prior year total:
$3.0 million), and was mainly comprised of funding from the Alberta Law
Foundation (67%), City of Calgary FCSS (9%), Grant from Anonymous
Donor (6%), United Way of Calgary and Area (2%), Law Society of Alberta
(2%), and Solicitor General Victims of Crime Fund (2%). F2018 expenses
remained consistent with FY2017 at $3.2 million. The balance sheet
remains strong with liquid assets in excess of $1.2 million.
Looking forward to the 2018/2019 fiscal year, CLG will continue to focus
its efforts to diversify its funding sources and opportunities, and in doing
so, expand or enhance all existing services; none of which would be
possible without the continued support of the organization’s largest
funder, the Alberta Law Foundation.
As an organization, we are grateful for the continued support of our
funders and donors. We are extremely fortunate for their loyalty. We
express our sincerest gratitude to all of our highly committed volunteers.
It is our firm belief that without the collective efforts of each and every
one of you, we would not be able to achieve our mission of providing
access to legal assistance and information to disadvantaged persons.

I am truly honoured to have been chosen as the 2017
Alan D. Hunter volunteer of the year. I have always
believed it is important for everyone to give back to the
community. As a lawyer I know I have a set of skills and
knowledge others in the Calgary community may not
possess which can be of great benefit. I can think of no
more logical and worthwhile place to volunteer my time
and skills than CLG. During the day I practice exclusively
in the area of family law with the firm of Soby Boyden
Lenz LLP. With CLG, I regularly volunteer with the
evening clinic where I provide advice in family law to four
clients over an approximate two hour period. It may not
sound like much time, but it is amazing how much help
you can provide to someone in just half an hour. Many people do not know what rights they have
in law when it comes to property, support or their children. They may have heard things from
friends, their community, or their former partner that are not correct. In just half an hour you can
empowerclientswiththecorrectknowlegeandinformthemofhowtheCanadianjudicialsystem
protects them and their rights. For some individuals they may have an idea of their rights, but are
unable to hire a lawyer to enforce them. For them it is a procedural barrier. As lawyers sometimes
take for granted how scary and confusing the court system can be. In just half and hour you can
give clients the tools to bring matters before the court themselves. I believe volunteering with
CLG has also kept me sharp in my regular practice. The types of problems you can come across
in CLG are varied and sometimes require unique solutions. I have learned a great deal and have
become a more creative lawyer as a result. I am extremely grateful for the community around
CLG. I intend to continue to volunteer regularly and would encourage anyone who does not
volunteer with CLG to consider it. Not only will you be giving back to the community, but ou may
learn something while build new relationships and meaningfully impacting countless lives. Thank
you again for the recognition.
