This document discusses different types of surveying classified based on the instruments and methods used. It describes compass surveying which involves taking angular measurements with a surveyor's compass or prismatic compass to determine the magnetic bearing of lines. The prismatic compass survey involves a series of connected lines and is recommended for large, undulating areas with many details, but not where local magnetic attraction may occur. It also briefly describes the prismatic compass which is similar to a surveyor's compass but has a prism and eye piece to view through, and takes whole circle bearing readings of 360 degrees requiring use on a tripod.
