I have always been flabbergasted by how ignorant Americans are about Syria and how US policy makers in the Obama Administration have dealt with the Syria file so far. So as a political activist in the region, I thought of sharing with you some basic answers to the most asked questions about Syria in the hope of one day maybe helping you all see the light at the end of the tunnel regarding the quagmire we are all facing in the region.

I was fascinated by the Arab Spring phenomenon (2011-2014) which reveals how complex the social-political situation in MENA (Middle East and North Africa) had been. Many of my countrymen don't understand the realities there, instead believing conspiracy theories which simplified things to merely "US/Israel/Zionist vs Islam/muslims". This presentation is my attempt to summarize the history and geopolitical complexities and to debunk some conspiracy theories related to Arab Spring.My sources are multiple articles in CNN, TIME, Al-Jazeera, Al-Monitor, Stratfor, Foreign Policy, among others. I closed this ever expanding presentation in the beginning of 2014 since it became obvious that the revolution season was over and multiple failures manifested in many countries.

Syrian No Fly Zone

Some have suggested that a better alternative would be to establish a 'no fly zone" over Northern Syria to go after ISIS and pursue other objectives, including undercutting the regime of Assad. Secretary of State Kerry has asked his staff to look into doing so, and presidential candidates including Hillary Clinton and various Republican candidates, which include Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Carly Fiorina, Lindsay Graham, John Katich, and Marco Rubio. But does doing so make any sense and what would be the realistic strategic purpose of a no fly zone in contested Syria? In a briefing by Lt. General (Retired) Dave Deptula, the question of a Syrian no fly zone was examined carefully when it first bubbled up as a popular antidote to the disintegration of Syria. The presentation to the U.S. Institute of Peace, dated May 29, 2014 but updated recently for this article, Deptula highlighted a number of key considerations, but really boil down to a direct question: what are the strategic objectives for such an action?

El Puerto de Algeciras continúa un año más como el más eficiente del continente europeo y vuelve a situarse en el “top ten” mundial, según el informe The Container Port Performance Index 2023 (CPPI), elaborado por el Banco Mundial y la consultora S&P Global. El informe CPPI utiliza dos enfoques metodológicos diferentes para calcular la clasificación del índice: uno administrativo o técnico y otro estadístico, basado en análisis factorial (FA). Según los autores, esta dualidad pretende asegurar una clasificación que refleje con precisión el rendimiento real del puerto, a la vez que sea estadísticamente sólida. En esta edición del informe CPPI 2023, se han empleado los mismos enfoques metodológicos y se ha aplicado un método de agregación de clasificaciones para combinar los resultados de ambos enfoques y obtener una clasificación agregada.
