Article in The Times of Israel by Andy Blumenthal: I’m sure many of us have seen the new hit Adam Sandler movie, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, and probably most people will tell you it’s a great movie. To be fair, I believe that Adam Sandler did not mean badly with this movie in that it did show him trying to get the often out-of-control teenagers back on track. It was also nice to see that Stacy was ultimately a good person and friend. However, this Hollywood-ized version of a bat mitzvah and Jewish culture is clearly made for profit and not with a Jewish moral compass in mind and soul.

"My mother begged me to find a girl soon, not to be shy, said it was natural for me to like
girls"(p.7).
This quote directly shows the traditional viewpoints of sexuality within religion. From the
reading we can gather that the author wanted to represent this view as a heterosexual
relationship was pushed upon the narrator by his mother. But we are able to understand
that the narrator finds living with AIDS to not affect his spirituality. We see this
acceptance he has with death as he is battling AIDS but the idea of death does not
frighten him and he more-so accepts AIDS as part of his identity.

The meaning of the quote is that his own mother had to create this fantasy of him having
cancer rather thank acknowledging the AIDS. That he had to live with others that believed
he was not taking care of himself and wanted to die. As punishment for his sexuality and
having AIDS and having no support from family. His family offered no support and trying
to talk to Jesus to find help with his problems.

The gas needs to be odorless and colorless (like nitrous oxide) to camouflage its use, and the Israeli commandos will need to be hairpin-ready to blow the blast doors and get in to rescue the hostages.

To our great detriment, Hamas’s strategy was largely successful. They inflicted significant damage on Israel and the Jewish people not only through sheer terrorism but also through the insidious setup for Israel to be perceived as the perpetrator rather than the victim. However, now it is Israel's turn not only to destroy Hamas and rescue the hostages but also to set the record straight.

Whether we employ think tanks and advisory boards; military and intelligence assets; strategic planners, futurists, and statisticians; technologists, scientists, and engineers; psychologists, sociologists, and anthropologists to get into the heads of our adversaries or the realm of the unthinkable, we must break down the barriers to novel thinking and creative solutions. Along with faith in the Almighty and a strong, technologically advanced, and well-trained IDF, this deep planning must become the bedrock of our security preparedness.

But somewhere along the lines, too many Prince Charmings have turned into real ugly toads. Here is one such story that really made me gasp. An orthodox man is divorced and has a number of kids. He is introduced to a young lady from out of town. They speak by phone a number of times. In the course of the early conversations, the man tells the woman that there are some nasty accusations that his ex-wife made against him, but he reassures her that he is a frum guy and that the accusations are nothing but completely false. After a number of phone calls, the guy offers to go out and meet the girl, and they plan a nice but simple date for them to continue to try and get to know each other better.

With details omitted for the privacy of the couple, let’s just say that it was impossible for the date to proceed. After some back and forth, the man apologized for his behavior, and they parted ways. It seemed like he had sufficient conscience to know that he had treated her badly by not being honest. However, just a couple of days later, the girl receives a demand from him for an exorbitant amount of money to compensate him for the cancelled date that she never even initiated! The girl responded in shock, saying that she never agreed to pay him anything and that if only he had been honest from the beginning, then all this could have been avoided. In response, he aggressively tells her that he doesn’t forgive her, but she can keep the money, and then threateningly says that G-d will judge her! In short, he curses the girl for not paying him for the date that he himself torpedoed. Of course, this is just one of countless horror dating stories out there. To be fair, the same thing can happen when women are not honest or courteous with the men that they are dating. And, while I’m not a dating expert, stories like this of ostensibly religious people behaving very ungodly seem to indicate that something may be seriously wrong with elements of the Jewish education, parenting, or value system these days. The best that I can say is that even a toad has better manners than this.
