Gaskell.His father was a lawyer and also served
in Parliament for many years,
representing Montgomeryshire. He served in the
British Army from 1746 to 1774 and participated
in the War of the Austrian Succession(1740-
48),Seven Year’s War (1756-1763) etc. In 1753,
he was married to his friend’s sister Margaret
Maskelyn. In 1768, he was made the Fellow of the
Royal Society (FRS). On 22 November 1774 X
