Given we’re also defined by what we are not, unlike lazy fact -givers, I’m a driven storyteller. A 25-year
award-winning journalist unwilling to bore my audience with easily composed but uninspired writing.
No matter the topic or length, with soft and hard news, my quickly crafted pieces don’t just inform but
also entertain. If this credo mirrors yours, I’m eager to explore a potential journalistic partnership.
While having print and TV expertise, I’ve spent most of my career as a public radio journalist engaged
in every reportorial and anchoring task for statewide and national broadcast at NPR member stations
in Top 50 markets, including a local decade-long stint with WUNC-FM. I’ve also been a producer
and occasional host for three local shows in different states. To better care for an ailing parent, in
recent years I've worked as an independent producer from my home in Chapel Hill, NC.
Plus wide-ranging duties at my university’s NPR station, to fund J-school classes, I worked early on
as a stringer for the Pulitzer-winning Milwaukee Journal Sentinel while also reporting for Wisconsin’s
largest independent college weekly. My TV training began with simultaneous D.C. internships as a
PBS show producer and CNN production assistant, after graduation I became a producer at the
Peabody Award-winning ABC affiliate in Cincinnati, OH.
My most novel personal and professional longtime strength is an ingrained capacity for immediately
establishing a genuine and weighty rapport with everyone I meet, from monied socialites to inner city
teens. This rare faculty emboldens my interviewees to bestow extraordinarily candid and commanding
tape, regarding all subjects and situations, for use in everything from spot news stories to longer local
show chat segments. I’m a sort of cosmopolitan scout forever monitoring shifting societal trends, with a
global curiosity not limited to my like-minded fellow tribe members. It naturally follows that another of
my distinctive capabilities is a widely praised talent for long-form musically scored narrative journalism.
I’m also well-practiced at being creative on demand, plus independently unearthing and simultaneously
fashioning multiple journalistic gems in short order. All my digitally produced creations are enhanced
by compelling web extras and interaction via social media. Regardless of the project or duty, my style
– conversational, thoughtful, authoritative, et cetera – is consistent. And I’ve always been valued as
an infectiously passionate, prolific, and visionary team player who adores the collaborative process.
Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to discussing whether we’re a journalistic match.
