Christianity in Public Education
Project
Colorado High School History
Standards
• These standards only adress religion once in
the third history standard.
• “Discussthehistoricaldevelopmentandimpacto
f major world religions and philosophies.
Topics to include but not limited to the
Enlightenment and modern changes in
Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and
Hinduism (DOK 1-3)” (CDE 2014).
Theology in the Classroom
• I think that the social studies curriculum
should include theology standards.
• This could very well open the door for a
discussion of all religions in the classroom
alongside Christianity.
• It would help people understand the
motivations of religions
Great Academic Journal on the Topic
• The article, “Christianity and its legacy in
education” by Kevin Burke and Avner Segall is
a great outside source to look at on the
subject.
• It explains the roots of Christianity in
education and that it is nearly impossible to
fully separate the two.
