Introduction to
Chinese
Elementary level, for
travelling, greetings and basic
phrases
This course will be delivered through a
communicative approach which
involves more emphasis on talking
than reading and writing. The pace
will always be kept to a beginner’s
level and no advancements will be
made without everyone’s satisfaction
being met. This is a very enjoyable
class when everyone gets talking.
Introduction to Chinese
Learn how to draw and write Characters
Learn how to hold a calligraphy brush and write like a true native. Learn how to
recognize characters based on their composition and make-up. Learn how to distinguish
characters based on their radicals/chunks, and then you have mastered the art of
Characters.
Objectives:
 Use elementary level
vocabulary and grammar
 Communicate with
classmates using general
phrases and greetings
 Learn through a solid
beginner’s foundation
without the pressure
 Communicate within a warm
environment in which you
feel comfortable with making
mistakes and learning
 Participate within a class with
interactive and authentic
learning through a
communicative approach by
a non-native Teacher
Objectives:
 Acquire the basic stroke order used in Calligraphy
 Use Calligraphy brushes to experience the true quality of
drawing characters
 Write your own unique Chinese name
 Practice writing new and old vocabulary
 Develop a more profound knowledge into character
construction based on traditional characters

 Currently a Chinese and English language Teacher
 Chinese Language teacher with the Chinese Teachers Association of
Ireland.
 First and only non-native Chinese student to study at UCC through the
MA in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of other Languages programme.
 Qualified with a high 2:1
 Fully committed to teaching Chinese Mandarin in a fun, enjoyable, and
communicative style.
