STOP Tommy! Series By: Lisa Kay
I dedicate these books to my younger brother Tommy. He has been a true inspiration in every aspect of my life. He is truly special in so many ways. Enjoy these short stories, written from what I believe was his point of view growing up as a child with a disability.
STOP Tommy! Hello my name is Tommy Widnor. I live with my mummy, daddy, and oh yeah my sister Tamny and Litha.
STOP Tommy! I do not hear very well, so people are always yelling at me. When I try to talk to them, NOBODY ever seems to understand what I am trying to say. Ugh! Really, it’s okay with me, because my mummy said I was just born that way.
STOP Tommy! No matter where I go people are always yelling STOP! Like my crazy sister Litha. That girl follows me every where! I turn around and there she is yelling and signing STOP! Oh and GO HOME!
STOP Tommy! Litha always gets so mad at me when she can not run fast enough to catch me. Sometimes I feel sorry for her, so I park my big wheel on the side of the road to give her time to catch up.
STOP Tommy! Often, I even wait until she is almost beside me then I jump on my bike and ride away. I don’t know why, but that REALLY makes her ANGRY!
STOP Tommy! I circle around the block a few times, visit with all my neighborhood friends, but every where I go people tell me to “STOP”! I just say okay, shake my head, and ride away.
STOP Tommy! Now it is almost dark, and people are REALLY telling me to STOP! Something about being safe, watching out for cars, and I don’t know. I just shake my head, and say okay, and ride away.
STOP Tommy! I ride my bike right into my sister Litha and Tamny. Oh No! there is Litha again, WITH OUT her happy face! Yelling and signing STOP, and oh yeah GO HOME! I turn my bike to go the other way, when suddenly I feel a soft hand on my back.
STOP Tommy! I look up to see my sweet sister Tamny. She looks deep in my eyes, right at my face and whispers, “STOP Tommy”, time to go home and EAT! I smile BIG, shake my head to say, “oh okay.” Then I STOP, turn my bike around to GO HOME and EAT!
