• provide parents with a short written summary
• reflect the 3 Prime Areas of development (i.e. the 8 Aspects)
• areas in which child is progressing well & any areas where progress is less
than expected indicating that a child may potentially have a developmental
delay
• future activities & strategies to address any issues or concerns
• secure parental consent to share information if & as necessary
• discuss with parents how summary of development can be used to support
learning at home
• feed into Healthy Child Programme etc
Beyond the Prime Areas it is for Practitioners to decide what the written
summary should include, reflecting the development level &
needs of the individual child e.g. interests, views etc

Ofsted may issue a notice to improve – in
respect of any failure to meet a requirement in the
Statutory Framework Document. If there is a
failure to meet requirements in Section 3 a
welfare requirement notice will be issued.
It is an offence for a provider to fail to comply with a
welfare requirement notice.
A must is still a must!
