This chapter discusses the history of string and cord artifacts from the Paleolithic era, including the earliest known example of cord fossilized in the Lascaux caves in France dated around 20,000 BC. It provides artistic renderings of Paleolithic Venus figures that may have worn string skirts as well as photographs of string skirt examples from different cultures throughout history, such as a 14th century BC skirt in the National Museum in Copenhagen and a traditional Zulu skirt.
